it asks for this after it boots up- and i can't find any way to bypass it or make a new username and password

bought this computer from a school district sale for only 15 bucks- i thought it was gonna be windows 98- i never heard of linux- am i gonnna have to get the password from the school?

i know its not the best- 650 megahurtz (whatever that is) called cyclone- pentium 3 and has 256 megabytes i think

is linux a good operating system??

how do you reinstall the O.S? do you need a CD or floppy- i have niether if i need it i could used ebay i guess

Get a Windows Disk and install what you know.

you probably already thought to ask the person you purchased the computer from. have you tried leaving the password blank and just pressing enter? To install redhat again, or any version of linux you can download them for free. Windows 98 is not very secure much better to purchase windows xp if you are going with windows. Linux is an awesome operating system, but you will want one user friendly, ubuntu or mandriva or puppy linux are fairly user friendly. All are free for download, or you can purchase the cds. If the "administrator" user name is root,

but often it won't let you login to the desktop under root. Could try it with a blank password. Not sure why the school would sell it without removing the password first. Then once in there create another account for yourself.

Linux is stable OS, no reboot, no viruses....You can buy Linux Live CD to virtually install OS again and try Linux.
Try Knoppix Live CD

try Administrator as username and admin as password switch off capital letter because some are CAPS dependant and im not sure if neither or both require CAPS.
