This term comes from operas. The opera wasn't officially over until "the fat lady sings".

Have a lovely rest of the evening.

I think it's a reference to large women singing in operas, especially in the final act just before the curtain comes down. Thus, when the fat lady sings, the play is over.

Probably from my ex girl friend lisa white LOL. But seriously, I'm pretty certain , not 100% that it came from back in the 1800's when opera singers toured the west, and the cowboys were so disgusted with them, that one of them stood up and asked the others, when is this thing over with? to which one of them replied, it's not over til the fat lady sings.

From the Wagnerian opera, the Ride of the Nibelung I think. The fat lady serves as the finale.

This is attributed to Casey Stengel as a comment during a baseball game when his team was way behind, but may actually come from an old Southern saying: "Church ain't out 'til the fat lady sings."

My heavens, I not in any respect were flashed, yet I did by accident flash some persons once. i changed into in the wellbeing facility your time lower back and keen to take a stoll to the merchandising section. properly, I wasn't wondering about what i changed into wearing and, enable's merely say that those wellbeing facility gowns do not go away plenty to the mind's eye on the bottom. The nurse got here up from in the back of me and placed a blanket over my shoulders . . . i changed into questioning why it turned right into somewhat drafty lower back there!

From the opera I believe. Traditionally, opera divas have been "full figured" ladies, and the diva typically ends the opera.
