Look at it this way.

You'll never be without a job....
You'll be able to work wherever you want to....
Your starting salary is easily double most others when you start

Sounds like a damn good deal to me.

Congratulations! You got into a very demanding field! And the applicants outnumber the seats 10-1 - a very nice accomplishment you deserve a pat on the back! I've been a pharmacist now for over 13 years. Its hard work, and it was hard work going thru school. But, the education you are about to receive! Holy cow. Of course you'll be compensated well - the level of education you'll have far, far, far exceeds that of most other health professionals. PA's only go to school for 2 years, Optomistrists can also prescribe but don't really understand psysiologic structure or function. You're going to be on level with MD's, and NP's. There is a wide gamit in the people who can prescribe, but there are very strict educational rules about who can dispense. That's part of the reason that Pharmacy School numbers have remained static even though the need for pharmacists have increased.

You'll be the final checking point between the patient and drugs prescribed. Its an important task. Be prepared to have your brain filled!

Be proud of the money you'll make. Its a lot! You'll be able to make a very nice living part time even, if you wish. And, its wonderful. Some people will try and make you feel badly for making what you do. I say they are sour grapes! And they chose their careers poorly. You've made a wonderful choice. If you have questions or anything, please feel free to email me!

CONGRATS again!!!

Because of the shortage of pharmacists I think their pay is way out of whack (high) with the rest of the medical community...which is a very good thing for you.
