If your question is "should you vent your roof?", the answer is yes you should. It will add considerably to the life of the shingles and reduce your cooling costs in the summer by reducing the temperature in the attic.

Good luck with your vent project.

If you dont vent your roof, then you run the risk of having moisture being trapped in the attic, and that will "rot" the roof out, shortening the lifespan of the roof and trusses.

It invites termites to invade the home! And that shortens the life of the home.

Not having vents, will trap heat up there, and that will create "ice dams", or those large icicles that hang down from your roof, and backs up under your shingles and destroys the roof, (rots it) and the life of the shingles.

Also, not venting your roof, if you have a crack in your chimney, you can get gases in there, and they can seep down into your living area, and kill people...(not a good thing in my book!).

Other things occur, but, you get the message, the roof needs to have soffit and facia, and maybe a roof ridge, or gable vents, so that you get all the moisture out, and your house will be yours for a long time.

I wish you well..

Jesse
