Here's my theory:
Before Barbosa died or what ever, he put a piece of his soul in the monkey. The voodo lady later on wanted the monkey because she knew it had his soul in it. And on second thought, maybe when Jack the monkey went to Barbosa's boots he got his soul in him and he was the only one who could get it. While the crew was away on their voyage, she revived Barbosa.
My theory, tell me what you think.

I have the answer. Watch the first Pirates movie again. After the end credits it has a small Scene where the monkey picks up a coin of Aztec gold. Keep in mind that the monkey always returns to Barbosa's side. The monkey turns to the camera as a skeleton(the monkey is under the curse). What must have happened next? When the monkey stole the gold, returned to his Capn's side, Capt. Barbosa took the gold coin from the monkey(he's a Pirate, go figure) and this re-instated the curse-sparring Barbosa's life. The third movie will prob. go more in depth but that's my take.

I don't know the answer but I'm pretty certain Barbosa is not cursed because you can't be cursed by just having a piece of the gold. If the monkey gave it to him that can't change a thing. If it did then Elizabeth would have been cursed all these years from taking the gold from Will in the 1st movie. And also he ate an apple. Cursed pirates can't enjoy food remember?

THIS IS THE REAL REASON I SWEAR TO GOD!!!!! Jack stole a ring as you see the first time he is at the witches house and in the first movie Barbosa had that same ring which kept him alive. So technically I believe Jack is still alive because no one except the witch knew what the ring was capable of and Jack didn't know what it did. He just saw a chance to steal something that may have been expensive and it ended up saving his life. How or why Barbosa got to that crazy witches house is beyond me. But did you see that dog at the end of the credits? That was the biggest waste of time omg. Sat there forever to see a stupid little scene although it is quite funny.

As someone pointed out earlier, Barbosa was seen in Tia Dalma's hut when Jack and crew went to visit her and she gave Jack the dirt (LOL!).
Also, too, why is the monkey still immortal? "Look, a dead monkey," as Jack put it. And, at the end of the first film, the monkey steals a piece of gold and is skeletal. SO, maybe that's why Barbosa is still alive??? OR, Barbosa is now mortal and was shot, but then somehow made it to Tia Dalma and she is healing him?
Undoubtedly, this will all be resolved in the third film. But it's really agitating to want to know why he's still alive. Ah well, until next summer, I guess.

ok, at the end of pirates 1, the monkey & barbosa are still in the cave where the aztec gold is, right? well at the end of the credits the monkey swims over the chest of aztec gold & takes a peice, that means that the curse can curse people all over again. the monkey becomes cursed, and because the monkey loves barbosa brings him some gold cuz he was dieing. that stops him from dieing cuz he gets cursed again & cant die.

I'm pretty sure that they threw in Barbossa so they could explain what happened to him.
I'm thinking that in the third movie (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End) will involve the whole sea trying to get to Jack Sparrow, but it's just a guess..

I know!!!!!!!!!!!...okay...listen to this! in the first movie at the beginning kind of Captain Jack was being held captive and talking to these two red coats about the black pearl. One says I have seen the pearl. the other says you couldn't of seen it. the darkest ship in the world, with sails as black as coal and a captain so evil that even hell spit him out again. so Barbosa died but hell wouldn't take him. So then he went to the witch and then of course he is alive again at the end of the movie.

No one really know. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 didn't come out yet, but for my opinion, I guess that the black lady that gave Captain Jack Sparrow must had revived him some how. she must have a lot of "potions"

Well, Tia Dalma is some sort of a witch. If you notice when they first go to see her, Barbossa is lying on the bed at the back of the room, one camera view shoes his boots. I would say that it will be for the beginning of the final chapter in the trilogy to reveal, as the crew will be heading to "da ends of de ert" as Tia calls it to bring Jack back.

I'm with no name. I didnt get it either. But maybe she did a spell on Jack (Barbosa's Monkey) I bet they will explain it in the third movie. I thought it was really good that Will found his dad. I also thought the special effects were REALLY good!!
