For a few more dernero you could buy a DVD burner and burn DVDs. I personally would stay away from DVD / VHS combos. Twice the opportunities for something to go wrong. Do NOT buy lite-on, its slow slllloooowwwww so slow, takes only a few names dvd discs, and sometimes says you have an invalid discs when you dont; its a rotten machine, but works if you are using it for light use like for a single person, not for a big family. its only dvd, not the dvd.vcr units.
Save your money. go with sony, or GE; GE lasts me for 8 yrs. They are very stable.

panasonic are the best because they play ererything from DVDs to VCDs to just mpegs, jpeg pics and everything else you can think of, but the remote controll is a pain in the butt.

best dvd players are made by panasonic because they last forever.. Sony is just popular but aren't as reliable as panasonic or even samsung

Sony is top line stuff. I use to hate sony, but they have really raised the bar lately. Panasonic is good also. Stay away from LG products. Want a real opinion??? Get your *** too consumer reports!!! They test this stuff.

I have a Sony SLV-D360P DVD/VHS Recorder, its works and has better quality than others. the VHS is clearer on this recorder.

Had a Toshiba for 5 years, and it worked great...Just purchased a Panasonic and, so far, it has worked wonderfully!!
