I was wondering this myself. Great question, but it probably belongs in religion and spirituality section.

I am somewhat taken aback at how many people read fiction and apply truth to it esp.since I began with Yahoo answers. Read the bible for it is THE TEXTBOOK of Christianity. Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ was swayed to do so by the Pharisees in fact conned and didn't think through the consequences of his actions for after his betrayal when the full reality of what he'd done sunk into his soul he hung himself. Were it true that Jesus Christ took him into His confidence(the Gospel of Judas)and that he wa actually a needed figure in the salvation of mankind then why this deep despair and hang himself-doesn't make sense for he'd be part of something wonderful and terribly important. Was he a revolutionary and using Jesus as a front man and when he realized that Jesus would not use force to do away with Roman domination betrayed Him well then I'd have to use the same argument-why hang himself .One would think he'd use the money-30 pieces of silver to finance support for his revolutionary ideas but he attempted to return the money and have Jesus released and when they didn't left the silver with the Pharisees.
the only role of Judas that makes logical sense is the one written in the bible.

It shows the human characters. A person who has lust for money will do anything to gain it expecting that he will not be caught. The world cannot withstand Jesus for He speaks truth. Truth is sharper than any sword and harder than even diamond. It hurts all that are not true to life. So the world has to end Jesus. Even today, those who say they wait upon the coming of Jesus will do that.
If Judas doesn't betray Jesus - John or Peter will do that. Who among those 12 stays at the lowest level of truth will complete the act.

Judas - did he get a bad rap or was he a bad guy?
SOMEONE had to deliver Jesus to the government, and Jesus knew who would do it. In fact, he told Judas to do what he had to do and do it quickly. Sounds like a commission to me.And the reason Jesus gives is
" But this is to fulfill the scripture: 'He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me."
When we studied Old English at Kansas State, there was a grat poem called "The Holy Rood" This was a narartive by the tree that because the cross of Jesus, and it describes the scene in terms of Jesus CHOOSING his death. He is always called "the young hero" and is seen 'LEAPING UP" onto the crossbar adn throwing his hands out for the nails. Pretty interesting way to interpret the crucifiction of a Jewish iinsurgent, no?

What you've seen is clearly pretend. Judas become an apostle yet also a thief and a liar. He betrayed Jesus for 30 silver products. Why would judas be from GOD if be worked antagonistic to him. The bible states that devil's evil spirit entered into judas and judas listened and betrayed GODS son JESUS. So he become from the devil not from GOD. He then went off and hung him self because he might want to not stay with what he had finished. He betrayed holy spirit and there is not any forgiveness for that.

I would say he was a traitor and necessary for salvation of the human soul. Perhaps we ought to be thankful to him! If he had not betrayed Jesus, perhaps he would have not died on the cross and redeemed our sins and Christianity would be a long forgotten ancient sect! Or perhaps another would have betrayed him and the result the same. Either way, it seems like an act or evil was needed. Sympathy for the devil. Who knows but an interesting exercise in logic, my friend.

Judas believed in Jesus, so he will be in Heaven. He didn't understand the timetable though, and was trying to force Jesus' hand so He would call on His angels to come and overthrow the Roman empire.

A question to Jesus: you forgave everybody. Why not a single word abt Judas? It looks odd to me.
