this must be because you haven't selected what you want your image to be yet. go to "messenger" at the top left corner and there should be something that says "my display image" click on that.

This Is B'cos U Must Have Not Activated Ur Avator Over There.START UR MESSENGER,Go To The Messenger Options From The Drop Down Menu Select Privacy Option Click On The Display Image Option And Click On All The 3 Options Under Display Image Option.Now Double Click On Any Address In Ur Messenger List In The Right Bottom Of The New Window Right Click On The Image And Select SHARE MY YAHOO AVATOR.That's All Junks.

My wont either. In my case, it's a yahoo glitch. Even though I'm already online, it wants to be go online through a mysterious dsl log in, whenever I want to use my avatar in Messenger. So I usually don't try to use my avatar in it.
