Okay, I am not trying to advocate ANYTHING here, so don't think that, please.

What do you think about marijuana?

I saw on CNN recently where a man is considering opening a marijuana cafe (or something to that effect) at Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco. It got me thinking about pot.

I am a pretty honest guy, so I will tell you that I have tried it in the course of my life and I really did not think it was all that bad.

I mean, I did it like two days in a row a few years ago during a "party weekend," and I never craved it like it was addictive, and I thought that the "high" was quite pleasant.... better than being drunk because I still had my senses and could walk in a straight line!

So, what's the big deal? People drink legally and then go get in their cars and plow into a kid. People use marijuana illegally, but you never (or... RARELY) hear on the local news about a driver killing someone because he was high on pot.

Why would alcohol be legal while pot isn't?

So does... and so is alcohol.

chattterus: Unfortunately, here and most places I have lived or visited, I have ALWAYS heard about a drunk driving accident. I believe that most people also know one or more people that have had DUIs or DWIs in the past.

Although it might not be safe to smoke pot and drive, either, don't try to downplay the serious drunk driving problem our country has fought for deacdes.

I personally don't think it's that big of a deal either. I think that they should just legalize it in the U.S so that we could collect taxes on the sale of it and be able to actually control the consumption. They should quite wasting money trying to bust people for it and go after the really nasty drugs that are instantly addictive and that can kill you the very first time you use them like crack.

Most people won't become dependant on marijuana or for that matter alcohol or opium. In the neighborhood of 1 in 10 gain some sort of dependancy on marijuana. Not very high. Opium has about 1 in 4 gaining dependancy.

The real issue with marijuana is why should it be legalized. There are a whole lot of drugs that are less danagerous than alcohol but have no realistic recognized use. They are all illegal. Marijuana is not a speical case. You need a better argument than the one you have put forward.

Oh, and I've rarely ever heard from my local news that someone died from a traffic accident due to alcohol. The normal promotional source for that is commericials and posters. I suppose you might see a few in the local paper. The stastics are there. Marijuana is present in not quite half the cases where alcohol isn't present.

man i live in Vancouver Canada, where there already is like 4 or 5 pot cafes I get high almost everyday , not because I'm addicted but because i enjoy it.. I have a really good summer job and I'm about to finish my last yr of my economics degree on the deans list... it doesn't make u crazy or go out of control, it does probably kill a few brain cells and make u a lil less motivated to do certain things... but it is in no way the demon drug that you yanks have made it out to be... the only reason pot is illegal is because back in the late 1800's and early 1900's hemp products started to put a lot of pressure on the cotton producers and were making a lot of the big plantations lose a lot of money, so American law makers outlawed and there's been a war on teh drug ever since. People have been smoking pot for a long long time and will keep on smoking it ... so be safe about it... and do it if it makes u feel comfortable... i love smoking the bong after a long hard day of work

Marijuana won't be legalized because the government can't control it to get their taxes. Anyone can grow their own. Anything that good and free has to be banned.
Pot smokers do space out and crash their cars sometimes killing people in the process. It's harder to prove in court. They don't have a breathalyzer test for weed.

Oh I forgot about that killing brain cells myth. It's LSD that kills brain cells not pot. That lie has been around for a while. A lot of people believe it but it's NOT true.
No one EVER died from an overdose of pot.
The worst that could happen is you fall asleep.
That "gateway drug" argument is also a lie. I've been a pot smoker for 30 years. I don't do any other drugs. Not even aspirin.
And it's been proven in labratory tests that long term pot smokers have less lung cancer than people who don't smoke anything.
They were expecting to prove it was a cause of lung cancer and found that it seems to prevent it.

Alcohol is legal because the government is addicted to the revenue it produces...tobacco is in the same category. If pot was legal, people might realize that it's safer (and cheaper on a dollars-per-buzz basis) than alcohol, and alcohol tax revenues would suffer. Pot would be too hard to tax. Brewing a good beer or distilling vodka is a specialized industry... anybody can grow a plant. One added benefit - you may be a bit sluggish in the morning afterwards, but you dont puke!

Been smoking to help myself sleep. It is a nice high. People need to calm down about it. There are a few medical pot clubs here. Also in a town just down the road, the cafe there just about everyone who comes in smokes a joint or two right inside. You just don't here that 5 people were killed by a person stoned usually

Legalise it, but I don't like being around chronic users. But that would destroy a good part of the government economies, and we couldn't have that, could we?

Personally, I think it would be useless, but I know some artists who said it helped them create, so whatever. (I gotta admit the only exposure I ever had to it was sidestream smoke, but when you're in a car and someone lights up the contact high can get a little intense. I did not appreciate that time. It messed with my sense of balance.)

well i have to admit i have tried it too.. and it makes you high and you laugh about almost anything... but then it also makes you eat so much after wards too... but it is still illegal... and i think drugs will just lead someone to want to try more drugs which can be really harmful and dangerous for all of us when someone is on drugs.. i also think even on marijuana you do not have all your sense and you do not seem to care about things that much and that can lead to trouble too...i hope you understand what i mean... and i do not drink much at all anymore... i never was much a drinker... but i still got a DWI... and that hurt me real bad.. i do not drive or drink now... but i do not want to do anything that is illegal....but either way you do not have all your faculties and you can do things you should not do or would not do if you had not been high or whatever.....

I tried the stuff years ago and didn't like the feeling at all. And, anyone with half a brain would know that alcohol is much worse than pot is. I would however, out-law both of them.....
