Good question.
Burton and K2 are my two favorite brands at the moment. I'll see if I can breakdown the 06/07 boards I like best. And yeah, I've ridden most of them already
First up, I'd put the K2 Zepplin up against the Burtom Custom X. This is a tough fight here. The Zep is one of the best "take no sh!t" boards I've ever ridden. You get on it and it just goes. Super planted with excellent response and feel. This board will carve through anything and handles just about every condition with a confidence that is amazing. The biggest drawback here is that this board is STIFF. This is a good thing if you can handle it. If you can't it will beat you down by the end of the day and if you aren't paying attention this board can get away from you. The Custom X doesn't feel as stiff but it feels just as responsive and the feel is all Burton. The lighter feel makes this board less fatiging to ride than the Zep. The X is lighter than the Zep and can handle the mountain just as well if not better. If money is no object than the X is the better of the two in my opinion. But the lower price of the Zep makes it a damn good choice as well, especially if you are very aggressive and can use the added stiffness.
Next I'll compare the Podium and the Custom (your Baron is a wide Custom). When I first got on the Podium I was a little leery of it. The only model I could ride was a 157, which is very short for me (I prefer a 162 or longer) and I was worried that it just couldn't handle the speeds I like to ride at. Boy, was I wrong. This board hauled. It did get a little nervous at the highest speeds but not nearly what I was expecting. Edge hold and response were on par with the Zep but since it was softer I could make a bit more use of it's "Hyper Progressive Sidecut" (er, a progressive sidecut is when the cut of the board is less at the tips and more in between your feet, meaning that the harder you carve your turns the more sidecut you get) and really crank the turns when I wanted to. I'm looking forward to trying one in a longer length. Now, the Burton Custom is the most famous, most popular and most copied board in the world. And for good reason. This board is awesome it does everything well...very well even. For the average rider you can't ask for more in a board than what the Custom gives you. My only complaint here is that, for me, it's too soft. It doesn't quite give me the support and response that the X can. Here, I lean to the Podium.
I don't ride the Park much anymore (gettin old) so I don't have too much to say for the Park specific boards. K2's WWW (World Wide Weapon) looks crazy, is a true twin and offers longer effective edge with a shorter nose and tail. That means you can drop your length about 5 cm. For Burton, the Dominant has been one of my best sellers for a couple of years now. Burton has updated the board with Infinite Ride (boards will break in after you ride them a bit and not feel the same as when you first rode it. Burton breaks it in first so the board remains consistant it's entire life) and a lighter core. This board has a twin shape but a directional flex, so unless you ride switch just as much as you ride forward, this board will perform better in it's intended direction than a twin. Also, Burton offers this board in a "Slick" version where the edges are recessed. This makes a board that is perfect for jibbing.
Now, Burton offers some unique stuff too. One board is called the Fish. Now, I couldn't recommend this to anyone as their one and only board but if you need a powder board, this is it. Like I said, I normally ride a 162 but my Fish is a 156 and I wouldn't want it any other way. Its heavily tapered shape give it just as much surface area as a longer board in a smaller package that is simply amazing. You need to try one to believe it. If you've ever been out on a day where it's been too deep or just not steep enough, this is the board for those days. I can't say enough good things about it.
Now Burton also has the T6. This baby is hands down the best board I have ever ridden. It's made with an aluminum honeycomb core that is super lightweight and responsive and it offers a feel unlike anything I've seen. Yeah, it's stiff and it's expensive but words can't describe how good this board is. Burton offers a lighter, more expensive board called the Vapor but in my opinion the Vapor can't hold a candle to the T6 as it isn't nearly as stable.
K2 offers a couple of cool things too. Their Recon Riser is a freeride board with built in risers that not only lift you off the board but offers great dampening (vibration reduction) as well. A great board for the guys with bigger feet or for people who need the added leverage of the risers to really rail their turns. And K2 finally brought back the Eldorado. This board is a freeriding legend and if all you do is poach backcountry lines and hidden tree stashes this could very well be the board for you.
Overall, when you ask what is the better overall brand I have to say Burton as their boards, boots, bindings, clothing and accesories are all top-notch. If you narrowed it down to just boards then it gets much tougher to make a determination as they are both so damn good. I lean to Burton but could easily see myself riding a K2 next season

I choose not to support Burton boards because of their horrible advertising. And I'm not talking about quality, I mean how demeaning it is to women. Same with Sims.

The Broad peak is the 3rd highest peak in the Karakoram Range and the 4th highest in Pakistan. The peak is located on the west end of the Baltoro glacier.
