Personally I didn't like soccer a few years ago, but now I like it. I believe it is different in every person. For example, in my case my interest for soccer started when my team (Ecuador) was able to play in a world cup. Most people develop this interest since they're little because they receive a lot of influence in their own home (that was not my case, though). Any sport is good as long as it is played in a respectful and fair manner. =)

From physchology point of view, it's more due to that because everyone love it, so we (human) tend to live in group, we likes what others people like and so it widespread accross the world and everyone like it in the end. So that everyone have common topic to talk about, to spend together with and have a great time,,,honestly it nothing to do with soccer, it just so happen the world chose soccer.

I love it. It's because it's the best sport in the world.
I hate American Handball (the NFL type). It is just expression of fat useless American culture. You find many players that are out of shape just shoving eachother. You get a guy looking into another guys butt and reaching into it to get the ball. The plays last only a few seconds and don't suggest endurance. And finally, they are too scared to get hurt, so they wear padding.

Because it is the most practiced sport in the world. that simple. it is so popular in the whole planet, not just one country.
by the way, football, not soccer, ask them, english people, they invented the game, and the language.
