actually you can use what jewelers in the trade call a slurry its basically a mix of pure baking soda and water apply it with a soft tooth brush also there is the commercially sold cleaners but thats more for the stones and only removes surface dirt from the metal the baking soda will do small amounts of polishing so the metal is actually shinier of course if your trying to clean your white gold jewelery because its starting to look yellow its probably not dirty at all its just the plating coming off and if thats the case then you should take it to a local jeweler to have it polished professionally and re rhodium plated that should only cost you 20-30 per ring and will last a long time as well as making your jewelery look like it did when it was new hope that helps you

Mix 1 tsp. (5 ml) dish soap and 1 qt. (1.1 l) warm water together in a bowl. Swish it enough that the soap bubbles up slightly. Put your jewelry into the bowl and allow it to soak for 10 to 15 minutes. By using an old toothbrush with a paste of baking soda and warm water, gently rub the toothbrush's bristles on the white gold piece to remove the dirt.Dry the white gold using a soft towel or jewelry polishing cloth. Get the white gold completely dry.

The best jewelry cleaner I use is called Connoisseurs. It is even recommend by Good Housekeeping. It's available at Kmart, Walmart, Rite Aid, or www.connoisseurs.com. It makes your jewelry just sparkle! Almost all White Gold has a Rhodium Plating over it and toothpaste can wear off the rhodium faster because of its gritty texture.

First home solution is to create a paste with baking soda. Baking soda can be used to clean many different types of precious stones. Mix the baking soda together with water to form the paste, then spread this paste around the stone and setting of the ring. Rise in warm water and dry with a microfiber cloth. A small amount of toothpaste on a soft bristle toothbrush can be used in a similar fashion, just be sure to rinse the ring off thoroughly. According to http://www.moyerfinejewelers.com

Take an old, soft toothbrush and run it through warm water. Put a dab of dish liquid on it and brush the ring gently. Rinse with warm water and dry with a soft towel. Should be shiny and clean and this won't harm it.

I always used the jewelry cleaner that's sold in jewelry stores or Walmart until my stepmom told me about using toothpaste. It works really well. Just get a cheap soft toothbrush and use a little of any kind of toothpaste. It will shine beautifully. I wouldn't advice using dish soap. It won't hurt it, but some of them can leave a film on the diamond that will make it look dull.
