This WAS a good desktop until today when it wouldn't come on. Everything elde on the power strip comes on. Monitor etc. When I push the ON button nothing happens. I tried a different power cord, no go. Could the power supply have gone belly up? Now here I am still doing fine on this 6 year old E-Machine. I want my other back though.

I think if it was the motherboard the little LED light on front would still light up, right?
It doesn't.

Yes it certainly could be that the power supply has gone bad on you. Just replaced the power supply on my wife's computer today. Basically it was not turning on, it could turn on if we turn off the main power switch in the back for a while and then turned it back on. Anyway yes it is very likely that it is the power supply. It could be other things in the computer too because these days computers have "soft" power buttons, which means a small amount of power is left on to the motherboard and a circuit watches to see if you press the button and then that turns on the main power, so if things go bad it might not turn on even if the power supply is good, but the power supply is the most likely thing that went bad and the cheapest thing to change out and see if it fixes it.

Funny, this just happened to me last night. I searched for what to do and found your question. I will be trying to replace the power supply tonight. I'll let you know. Seems to be a pattern with these Presario's, eh?
