I would say to get a professional inspection done. After that I would fix the place up and then call the guy back to make sure it was all done correctly. Then I would paint, change carpets into hardwood(except in the bedroom, but I could also just get an area rug!), change any appliances that may need replacing, cupboards, toilet and sink, put in a jacuzzi tub, furnish the place beautifully, and THEN I would work on the landscaping, being sure to add a deck and a hot tub. Making room for a trampoline for the kids would be a definite also!

Get home inspection. Make certain that roof, heating, cooling, plumbing and electric repairs are done. Anything else would be considered cosmetic unless you have severe structural damage.
Make certain that you have replacement value on your hazard insurance coverage. Also, purchase a home warranty plan. They range in price from around $399 to $500.

Open the windows and air it out! Take down any wallpaper because it holds odors. First replace all wiring because it isn't good and there aren't enough breakers to support all of our new electronics, etc. Next ck the plumbing. It will be pretty worn out, especially the water heater. Ck your gas lines and heaters/air conditioners/ to make sure they are SAFE with no slow leaks or weak spots to blow out. How is the roof? Take care of it. Next is the time to replace cabinets, floors, move walls, build in extras, etc. Next start sanding the woodwork (floors, walls, stairs, window & door trim&doors, baseboards, cabinets), do paint, staining,& then decorate. Have fun!

well you should have got an inspection BEFORE you bought the house. if you've already signed and are in the house its your problem now unless you have a claimer from previous owner stating any problems or repairs that existed they had knowledge of.if you find something that they didn't list you may have chance to make them pay for repairs. each state has different laws though

Realize there is more wrong with it than you originally knew. Hit your head against the wall a couple times, oops, there's a hole now. Stomp your foot as you cuss about the hole, dang it, new hole. ugh!! Ok, I'm exaggerating a little. But there really is more wrong with it than you knew.
