I ask because I see programs about gays on television and they are funny and popular, but when a program about religion and real people comes into play, it gets yanked off the networks. Musical groups get ostrasized for speaking their minds by having their records burned and being accused of not being patriotic. Exactly whom are we trying to not offend?

Please understand, it's not so much about morality as anyone who thinks that it is. I have nothing against gays, musicians or religion. There are people and/or groups who do. I just wonder why it is that the groups against gays can't get those shows off the air, but other groups can get a show pulled after one airing because they don't think Jesus should have a sense of humor or whatever. Why is it that people who don't support the war are 1- considered un-patriotic and 2-can't condemn musicians who capitalize on the fact that they do? The question isn't directed towards people's morals or lack thereof, but a sturdy of humanities and why certain factions are catered to while others are ignored. We're all entitiled to have an opinion and should be able to express it in a non-harmful manner without being condemned out of hand by people whose opinions happen to be popular at the moment.

I am totally with you. It seams like you can't do a thing without offending someone somewhere. I think it's getting to a point where people are afraid of taking a stand on anything they believe in for fear of retaliation in the form of a law suit, or harassment. I hope it doesn't get to a point where you have to close your curtains and lock your door so that your neighbor's don't see you praying before dinner because it 'offends' them.

Since you bring up the subject of religion, musicians and gays, you seem to be more concerned with 'morally correct' rather than 'politically correct'.
There are plenty of religious programs on TV, and they don't get 'yanked'. Same goes for gay programs and musical programs.
These programs are not banned and why? Because they are done in a manner that is 'morally correct'; that is, they do not have truly offensive material or content.
Our constitution's first amendment gives us the right to free speech, along with freedom of the press. However, when our forefathers wrote the Bill of Rights and our Constitution, they were not living in todays world, for had they been, they would have been more specific as to those freedoms. Inotherwords, there was a lot more morality in their day.
Today, there are those that try to use this freedom to do or say things that most would find very offensive. Yes, you can say you hate the United States...you can write a song about it. But, is it going a little too far? Is it 'correct' to do this? Is it patriotic? Does anyone care?
When you stop caring what anyone does because they have 'freedom'...where do you end up? You end up in a country with no morality, no law, no order and your country falls apart because of it.
We are a 'civilized' nation with laws...both legal and moral, and when people start hiding behind the first amendment to push their political agendas, or their personal agendas to become acceptable, we are in trouble if we allow it!
Most of us know right from wrong, good from bad. But when we are too afraid to stand up to those that use the first amendment to get away with what is wrong or bad, then we are being 'TOO politically correct" and TOO morally lenient.
Our freedom of speech is not in jeopardy, but our society is!

I do not think that we as a community are too politically correct. This is because we have the choice of free speech. I can choose whether or not to buy music that states one idea or another. It is the media that listens to a small minority who speaks out as being offended. If more people would stand up and speak for free speech this would not be an issue because it would come back to individual choice and responsibility. I have the choice and responsibility to do what I think is right for me. I also have a duty to respect those around me. While free speech is a right, we have to remember with freedom comes responsibility. Responsibility is developed through choice.

What I find funny is that we sit here all day debating about the very things that make us who we are. Do we worry to much about PC in this country. The real question is why don't others. Do I think your right about the shows and other similar situations. Yes, but you have to realize that we are a nation of many different races and backgrounds and that this is what America is. It is hard to organize so many different things and make so many different people happy but some how America seems to do it. You could go on many different paths about this one but the truth is what may offend me may be someone Else's joy.

Bob is right. I have found myself lately not caring if I am politically correct or not. I believe what I believe and to heck with anyone who feels differently. I have even gone so far as to tell some of those wacko's who have claimed to be "offended" by actions of "normal" people that THEY "HAVE OFFENDED ME." The look on their faces were pretty funny because I don't think anyone had actually told them before that THEIR actions were offensive to others.
We all need to stop worrying so much about being politically correct and get our country back to the way it should be. The pledge of allegiance (In English of course) should be said every day in school. And, as long as there are tests in school --there will be prayer in school. Don't you agree?

It does not "assure" some thing. also, after the astounding really a lot six years with B**h and his unfavorable, boastful, and conflict-mongering dictatorship, the astounding element this administration cares about is the "human beings's Rights." This administration has all yet shredded the structure. it really is continually a artwork in progression with ammendments; although, those criminals attempt to modify the regulation to slot their needs. God help us make it 2 extra years. Freedom of Speech comes with duty and difficulty-free experience. i imagine our founding fathers tended to furnish destiny generations, to boot because the so-said as destiny leaders, extra intelligence and information then we actual (maximum persons, besides), have. Now Canada fairly has freedom of speech. yet Canadians save coming to u.s.. Has absolutely everyone talked about what number actors/actresses are from Canada? they could stay the following continuously too. All they ought to do is get a particular operating Visa and in the journey that they make it, they are really a lot set for existence. Non-electorate do not pay any taxes except sales tax. that is a few thing that needs to get replaced. they are making a variety of of money in this u . s . a . and could pay taxes like all different citizen.

So long as the government is not the one doing the censoring, I do not care. The freedom for Alec Baldwin to demand that people should stone Henry Hyde and his family to death is America. The freedom for me to never watch an Alec Balldwin movie is America.
The marketplace makes winners and loosers of us all. Too many people want freedom without the responsibility of the consequences of their actions.

We are so vulnerable...because we are afraid to hurt someones feelings. Our country no longer thinks about GOD...they only degrade him.......You no that in some places in Russia they want missionaries to come in and preach the word of our LORD but in the good ole USA we just take him out of everything.....Lord help us all! If the liberals have anything else to do with it......GOD will be completly gone before we know it.And by the way...the dixie chicks deserved what they have got.....they made their bed..now they are having to lay in it! Some justice does prevail.

You are correct. You dont have figure of speech. Go to a local mall and start preaching. You'll get kicked out faster than if you shoplifted. We are trying to not offend everyone but the Christian middle class.

Constantly. I called someone's response seditious (it was) and was told to leave the country. I made clear that I supported their right to free speech, but they accused me of being socialist and being from N. Korea and Russia. When I asked them if they, like me, condemned socialism, they evaded and then refused to answer.
So many tactics used to silence people who disagree or call it as it is (or as they see it, as I might be wrong about all sorts of things).
Keep speaking up, and when you see these tactics used, call them on it. It is always alright to call behaviors what they are. But don't, as I don't, call people a "Traitor" unless they are shown to be in a court of law. Innocent until proven guilty, please.
Thank you, Yahoo! for your rather lenient rules and impartial help. Thanks to all the people here who speak up, and support each other from the one's who would silence us, Democrat (like me), or Republican, religious or athiest, etc.
