My brother just finished 6th grade. A few months ago he was "dating" a girl in his grade and our parents found out he was dating her... they turned around and made him break up with her and grounded him a bunch... it doesnt make sense to me because when they're so young all they do when they're dating is wave at each other at school and say hi and stuff... its not like they're gonna go off and have sex... besides they never would seen each other outside of school... anyways let me know what you think about this?

does'nt sound like they were really dating. but it sounds like your parents just freaked out at the thought. sounds like they are scared at the thought of th eir little boy growing up. don't worry. they'll get over it eventually.

yes, I do think "dating" is not ok at 6th grade. However, that is not what this sounds like. A phone call and a wave hi and hanging out together at school is not dating. However, I would not question your parents actions. They know more about the situation than we do.

I remember my 6th grade "fling" if you will call it that. I'm not sure if you can call it dating at that age. Maybe "going-out with" is the term. Of course they'll wave, hold hands, hug, maybe a kiss on the cheek, and who knows as far as a peck on the lips. I do agree with you on the sex matter though. Boys at that age aren't what we call mature for sex just yet. To answer your question though, 6th grade is too young to "date".

i think 6th grade is too young to DATE date but not too young to 6th grade date which is what it sounds like he was doing. 6th grade dating is like you said, telling people your dating but never really doing anything and being more as friends. I think its more for the image of being older. Your parents probably dont understand the difference.

No it's not wrong at all.But dating isn't the word maybe going with or something. But you were wrong about 6th graders not having sex more than half the kids in my grade(6th)are not virgins and carry concoms to school.some girls were pregnant this year. But no theres nothing wrong with having a gf/bf in 6th grade as long as you're not having sex and it's safe sometimes love is the only thing some kids are missing.

I think 6th grade is too young to date. You date to find your Husband/wife. You're not ready for that in 6th grade. You should save yourself for the one god has chosen for you (since it's pointless to date when you're that young) and start looking for him/her at about high school, or when you are actually mature enough to date.

WAY TOO YOUNG! I'm not joking, but kids that age ARE having sex and girls CAN get pregnant at that age. (I'm a teacher, I've seen it!) Kids are surprisingly resourcesful. Sure, their intentions may be as simple as a wave and perhaps a little kiss now and then, but a 12-year old dating is way too young. Your parents are merely protecting your brother from himself right now.

Untill middle of high school, I believe all dating outside of school should be shauffered.
School dating is usually innocent enough, but it can really have negative reprocustions too.
