I think it's because emotions run high and inhibitions are lower. People seem to take more risks at night. Maybe it's chemical or hormonal. It reminds me of the saying "why don't you sleep on it" which implies that you might make a different decision in the clear light of day than you would in the dark of night.

It's dark. You can do things without being seen much more easy at night.

However, if you can't do it during the day, should you be doing it? (yes, I know some things can only be done at night, but I think you should be able to get my point.)
