When someone pulls the racism or sexism card,it just proves they really have nothing to back up their argument.
You've already won.

Perhaps the word "racist" arises because most people that are against illegal immigration focus on Hispanic & latino immigrants, whether that is by choice or simply because the media only covers that story. The fact of the matter is that there are many people comprising a variety of ethnicities that enter the United States illegally. To focus on one ethnicity and not the issue as a whole could be construed as "racist". Really, "xenophobic" could be the word...unless of course the person is strictly talking negatively about ILLEGAL immigration.

I would say that people use the word "racist" because few people want to actually be racist. Even though it is definitely a human flaw. If someone states that you are "racist" because you are against illegal immigration, they are trying to distract others from the truth by labeling you as someone who "hates" this group. More than likely, the person has no other means of discrediting you as you more than likely have the facts on your side and they can not intelligently make a good argument for their beliefs.

Because they don't have a better point to make, so they revert to name calling.

I have no issue at all with immigrants. Welcome to America! We're happy that you chose us!

However, people who enter the country illegally (illegal aliens is the correct term, there is no such thing as an illegal immigrant, since immigrants are legal by definition) are an entirely different story. They need to go home, wherever home may be.

Whether America fails to believe it or not racism and sexism still exist just in a subtle forms? Racism still very much exist on every level of our society. Those who fail to see this are those who usually benefit more from the denial. As an African American woman I hold bias (we all do) and identifying that in ourselves helps us become not just tolerant but accepting of differences in each other. Sometimes you have to call a duck, a duck even if he/she wants to think of themselves as swans.

Now my question to your question is what was your argument against illegal immigration? Did your points rest solely on economic and other factors or did you infer race first and then some one called you on it?

Because they think it will deflect people's criticism and basically
shut them up when that's not the case at all, it's a verbal slight of hand like a magician using misdirection ( getting you to look in one place while they perform the trick in another )

just peoples ignorance. because most people tie the word illegal to mexican illegal immagrants rather than ALL illegal immigrants. since most illegals are mexican most of the attention about illegal immagration is focused on them.

It's purely an attempt to get you to sit down and shut up. It's childish name calling entered into by people who think they are right and you are wrong.
