the wireless laptop needs to be able to connect to the router. If it's not a wireless router, you need to use a cable and plug it into the router. Then you need at least one shared folder on one of the computers (it's easier if you do it with the desktop). Supposing you created the shared folder on the desktop, now using your laptop, click on network places. Your desktop should appear with the shared folder. Open the shared folder and drag and drop anything you want to transfer.

P.S you might need to disable the firewalls, or allow access. Otherwise the firewall might not let you access that shared folder.

If you have already set up a network, you must turn on File and Print sharing. Network Connections, rick click on the Connection icon, Properties, File and Print Sharing. Transfer the folder to the Shared Documents in my computer.

Or else buy a flash drive and transfer it that way which is much easier.

If your router is wireless. Make sure the "workgroup" is the same on both units. Right click My Computer, click Computer name tab to see the workgroup. If its different change one to match the other. Now you can share your hard drives or folders. In Windows Explorer Right click the drive C and select share. Follow the screen to share the drive. Thats it.
