Do you find yourself secretly wanting to reach out and spank the living day lights out of that kid? I'm not talking about abusing the kid. I'm talking an old fashioned butt whoopin'! Like back in the day! There was a little boy in the park with his mom. Repeatedly she told him to stop messing around and keep get over here now! So he yells at her and tells her NO! He's about all of what? 3 Feet tall if that? I'm like, dude, you're not even old enough to vote or hold a job and you're telling your mom NO?! Maybe I'm gettin' old but if that were my kid? I'd wear his butt out! What about you?

I don't think parents in this era are aware of much they let their kids rule their universe. I had a lady at my job tell me that she was unable to control her 5 year old. After she walked away I looked at another customer and said "Isn't that comforting?"
Then I said.. "Man.. I'm 44 and I STILL need boundaries". I think kids appreciate boundaries and discipline. Kids will only get away with what we adults let them. My nephew one time when he was a young boy used to have "sit down strikes". One time he wanted my mom to get him something at the store (his grandmother). My Mom was smart. She told him that she wasn't gonna buy it for him and when he was ready to stop crying and talk about it that she'd be waiting in the car. She actually sat in the car for at least 15 minutes.. Read her book.. patiently waited.. Finally my nephew shows up and quietly climbs into the car. She didn't start the car until she heard the click of his seatbelt. The next time she went to the store and he said he wanted to go too she asked him if he'd pull that crap again and he said to her.. No Grandma.. I Promise.. I beinghave this time.. She set a boundary and stuck to it. My mom was cool.

I have a daughter and she acts up. While the parent may want to give the kid a spanking, there is always somebody around that looks at spanking as an abusive act. I've seen the looks.

Parents that are responsible and don't want to impact other people enjoying meals around them, will try to hurry things along and get out of a restaraunt. My wife and I try this if our kids act up.

It is frustrating to see parents that just let the kids impact others around them and don't show any sign of concern.

I have a friend who tells me he will spank his kids, but not in public. He has a little key phrase he will tell his kid if they are acting up in public...'We'll take care of this when we get home.
He says his son knows that this means he's up for a spanking when he gets home and he will usually stop his behavior immediately after hearing that phrase.

i think that kids should never disrespect their parents. Its all about how that kid was raised. that boy's mother probably talked back to her mom. I do believe in "the old fashioned butt whoopin" it still applies today for me and my kids....Not one disrespectful word comes out of their mouth. I dont abuse my kids, I correct them.

I sometimes have to yell at my children at a store but try to be discreet about it. Most people these days give you dirty looks or snicker at you if you try to schold your child in public.
