My sister is 22 years old and she never even got it. Every other woman in my family has never had a problem with it. What's up with it?

My sister already saw a doctor about it. It's me I'm worried about-and I'm only 12, but it still freaks me out.

You are probably underweight. Many girls who are underweight NEVER even experience a period until they are a healthy weight. Going on the pill will regulate your periods because the hormones make you get a period the way a healthy woman should. There are many other factors that contribute to not getting a period (overexcercising, stress, etc.) but if you haven't had it in almost a year, it's probably your weight.

Sweety, please don't be freaked out. Quite normally, when a young girl first gets her period, it can take several cycles for them to become normal and happen every month. So what's happening to you may just be your body becoming adjusted to your new hormones. When I was 14 and first started my period I didn't get another one for 6 months. Also, since your sister is ten years older than you, you shouldn't go by what her doctor told her. If you are feeling too worried and preoccupied about this the best thing to do is see a doctor too. He would be the best person to put your mind at ease.
Good luck and God bless.

When I was 13 I got my period for the first time. The next time it was 6 weeks later. Later in high school I went 6 months without one. They told me I was too high strung and that the nervousness was interfereing with my cycle. They were wrong, I found out 7 years ago that I had a disease called Hashimoto's Disease. It can be found with a simple blood test called a TSH and a Free T4 (one stick). Hashimoto's disease is an autoimmune disorder where you are not producing enough Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and as a result my cycle was screwed up. This went on for years and I developed two other problems including cancer of the thyroid. Ask your doctor to run this test. It would be worth it.

Well your age difference is a big thing in regards to having concerns. If shes 22 and never gotten it she needs to speak to a doctor. At your age, it's perfectly normal to be skipping and having irregular periods. If after a year or two, you are having it more than once a month, skipping months, having excessive cramps or it lasts longer than 8 days then see a doctor. If you are truly concerned about it then talk to your doctor or you can talk with your mother about how that part of the body works. I wouldn't worry if I were you, it's normal to be irregular because your body needs to adjust to these changes.

Darl its normal for this to happen. the same thing happened to me. Its like a warning signal. Dont be scared in a couple months or so you will get your period and it will regulate. If you are still a bit scared on this topic you can go talk to a doctor and they will tell you everything you need to know and more.
Seriously dont worry its a blessing not to have your period!!

You're only 12...it is quite normal to have irregular periods during puberty...relax and enjoy the months you DON'T have a period because later on you will wish they were back.

Your diet may be the cause of this. If you are under weight that may also be a cause. You may want to see your doctor.
