I don't think anyone responded quickly enough, but no one really expected it to be as big a disaster as it turned out to be. That said, I think the president is the last person on the list of people to blame -- start by putting some responsibility on the people who built a city on the ocean BELOW SEA LEVEL!! Then, you can move on to the people who refused to evacuate even after they knew "something" was coming. After that you can look at the mayor of the city, who spent his time looking to heap blame on others instead of getting in there and doing his job to protect his city (by getting help to his people and/or requesting federal aid). Next you can move on to the governor of the state, for the same reasons. Then you could look at the Federal Government in Washington, for not realizing that the Mayor and Governor were in way over their heads and just stepping in. Finally, I guess you could "blame" the President for not realizing he was apparently surrounded by people incapable of doing their jobs and just telling them all what should have been so obvious.
So, if you can look past all those other people and ignore all the facts, then I guess it's President Bush's fault.

I don't think anybody responded quickly enough to the people caught in Katrina's path. The President, the Governor, or the Mayor.

absolutely everyone who says Bush turned right into a nasty president is incorrect. My relatives is decrease center type, my mom even undesirable... yet even as i look at president Bush, I see a sensible guy who dispite anybody who hates him, nevertheless holds reliable. you may not blame president bush for the 9/11 assaults, those were terrorist assaults. We went to conflict to kill those terrorist. in ordinary words a Liberal may say he's undesirable. i am going to admit he's not the most proper, yet he's a techniques from the worst. If we were to pull out of the Iraq it would merely be a waste of existence. I wont be able to vote till 2012 to boot. does not that be fantastic if Bush runs as McCains vice? Lol, properly with anybody who hates Bush that'd merely blow McCains opportunities. i'd provide bush a... eh'... B+ possibly an A-.

I don't think anyone responded quickly or adequately enough. I can't believe that the area is still in such horrible shape. Don't states have to give the federal government permission to assist in this situations? I heard that Gov. Blanco first refused to let the National Guard in...is this correct? Please don't take my answer as an excuse for Bush. I think everyone could and should have done more and think that they should being doing more now.

No, but the states have the right to make the decisions first; and the state and federal government just weren't synchronized.
Let's all hope that this doesn't happen again. Nothing seems to be straightened out yet as far as FEMA and everyone else that is involved is concerned.
Things aren't right yet in FL from hurricanes 2 years ago. Just hope that someone gets things right when it happens again.

The disaster could have been eliminated before it happened. The levee needed repair, but the President ignored it and sent all the government funds to the military. It's astounding how foolish a leader he is.

Yes, why was it his job? Local and state authorities should have been thee first. The military was in right after the storm. FEMA had supplies ready to go but wasn't allowed to deliver them to the stadium. This was a local screw up in a major way from beginning to end and those clowns went and re-elected the same mayor. Good luck!

Let's see... he commands the most powerful army in the world and he can't manage to move 3000 people out of a football stadium.

Are you kidding?? Absolutely not! In fact, it was shameful and he has the blood of the people who drowned in their homes on his hands. How quickly did he respond to the Teri Schiavo thing? Hours??? Don't tell me he couldn't have done more!!!

Heck, no! He flew around and around that city, burning gasoline in Air Force One, and then we all ended up paying $3-$5/gallon of gas.
I reiterate, heck, no!
