Neil Young has been around forever, and is the Godfather of Grunge.
In my collection, I have:
Harvest, Rust Never Sleeps, Re*Ac*Tor, This Note's For You, Unplugged, Hawks and Doves, Are You Passionate?, Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, Live Rust, Harvest Moon, Mirror Ball (with Pearl Jam), and Ragged Glory. Let's leave out the Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and miscellaneous guest-appearances - just clutters up the space.

I am a huge Neil Young & Crazy Horse fan. I could recommend an album better if I knew what kind of music you like, but I'll take a stab.
cd or dvd - Rust Never Sleeps
cds
Decade - a compilation of his early career
Harvest
My favorites are Mirrorball and American Stars n Bars but they might be considered acquired tastes.
Check out the new release at his myspace:

email me if you would like any more information.

Nope, never heard of Neil Young. Who the hell could that be.
He must be one of those obscure performers that just a few people listen to and whose music most people don't like.
I am going to recommend that you drop this Neil Young thing, because his music must be crap or else lots of people would know who he is.
Have you ever heard of Bob Dylan.
Somebody the other day was telling me about the Beatles. The Beatles, I said, who the f*ck where they?

yeah, I like him OK. I can't give any specific advice, but may I suggest a "best of" or "greatest hits," which could be followed up by regular albums that include the songs that you (or dad) like best off of it. That way, you have a greater chance of being happy with your selections.
