That's the most interesting question I've seen here in quite some time!

I think one answer, is to transform our cities into collections of gated communities. This has become a popular trend among the affluent, but there is no reason it can't work for all social classes. I'd include at lease a small convenience store in each community, so people can walk to the store, and meet their neighbors.

Before any of that can happen enough people have to acknowledge that there are any benefits. As long as people keep believing that bigger, wealthier, cleaner, shinier is better than it has no chance of happening. Education isn't even key since it will probably fall on deaf ears. The only thing I can suggest to you is do what you want for yourself and not worry about everyone else. If the example you set is truly worthwhile then some other people will follow.

OK, I missed something. Why would that be a good idea?

Doesn't that create an "us vs them" mentality? and doesn't that lead to wars like the Christians vs the Muslums and everyone against the Cathars?

Aren't "tribal societies" the fundamental opposite of "world systems".

Did I miss something??

remind me which benefits we're trying to reestablish? lack of modern conveniences, illiteracy, or low life expectancy?
