If you have PCOS, metformin can help you *get* pregnant. It is considered relatively safe (2nd safest of 5 categories), according to the FDA rating of drug safety during pregnancy (the scale is A, B, C, D, X, and metformin is a "B").

This medication is used to help women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) to conceive. Metformin, and other oral diabetes medications however...acording to my diabetic doctor and nurse, should NOT be taken during the first trimester as a treatment for diabetes. If diabeted during the first trimester is not controled by diet insulin is usually prescribed, because uncontrolled blood sugars can cause miscarriage.

Pregnancy categories are listed for medications as A, B, C, D, or X. This drug has it listed as a B for pregnancy and warns against breast feeding without a consultation with your doctor first. Your doctor should be able to advise you. On the category chart, A is the lowest risk and X being the most serious.

Yes but so does diabetis so you need your doctor's help in making the right decision for you. If possible you want to get off all metabolic altering drugs and control metabolic disorders with diet only. It needs close monitoring. If you are obese and diabetic you have what we call a high risk pregnancy and delivery is likely to get rough.

metformin shouldn't harm a pregnancy as far as I know, it's a medication for diabetes. talk to a doctor or pharmacist about it though, as I am not a medical professional... good luck.
