Didn't North Korea capture a US military boat during the Vietnam war, but not much was done about it because we were preoccupied? Could this be a similiar situation?

I didn't ask was this going to *cause* a war. The US is already in a war. You misunderstood the question...

North Korea has a pattern of provocative behaviour. Korea split after being freed from the Japanese at the end of World War II. Growing tensions between the governments in the north and south eventually led to the Korean War, when on June 25, 1950 the North Korean Korean People's Army crossed the 38th Parallel, claiming that the South had crossed it first, and attacked. The war continued until July 27, 1953, when the United Nations Command, Korean People's Army, and the Chinese People's Volunteers signed the Korean War Armistice Agreement. The DMZ has separated North Korea and South Korea since.

North Korea has kidnapped people from Japan and South Korea. South Korean film director Shin Sang-ok and his wife Choe Eun-hui were kidnapped and he was forced to make films for the North Koreans.

Kim Jong Il makes threats to get attention when he wants something - like a food deal, new technology, or whatever. Once he gets it he quiets down for a while, then backs out on promises and starts saber-rattling again when he wants something new. Unfortunately the *ahem* previous administration rewarded this behavior - with nuclear technology no less - so now he expects something every time he whines.

Someone needs to be the grownup and say 'NO' to the little dog-eating turd brain (oops - sorry, I meant illustrious world leader). Or at least shoot down the next missile he launches.

Problem is, North Korea is a puppet of China; so any serious intervention might get us into war with them. In fact, some suspect China intends to use them precisely for that purpose - to start a regional conflict which China can then enter to 'support' their 'ally.' (Hint: China could feed North Korea, if they wanted to.)

No, this isnt a prelude to war. Kim Jong is infamous for having tantrums, the missle test was a way of getting the American Administration to re-start talks. Hes a bully, he always does this. He test fired more missles 2 years ago, for the same reason. Its nothing new :) so no worries
