he's wearing a helment and she's not. So, that means if they get into an accident, he won't sustain any head injuries while she's probably gonna take a header into the concrete or worse, someone's car or windshield? By law the driver has to wear a helment? What about the passenger?

If you love your girlfriend or your wife, I'd assume that you'd want them protected while riding with you on a motorcycle? I would!

Well, my neighbor saw this one person with a girl on the back and a boy driving, it was a red light and they wernt slowing down when all of a sudden he SLAMS on the breaks and the back wheel comes completly of the ground.
Also just think of what happened to Ben Rothlesberger. I wouldnt be doing that any time soon. Every body should ALWAYS have a helmet on. The states where only the driver has to have one on, or the ones that dont even have the law at all should be changed!

A few other facts about wearing a helmet. The temp of a helmet can raise to 120 degrees on a 90 degree day. What if a person at an accident tries to remove the down bikers helmet and pulls his neck out of place. I would choose not to wear one if my stat did not have a helmet law. I ride motorcycles and would like to make that choice for myself. People have to remember that a helmet only covers the head not the body. A lot of people think that everything will be fine if that rider is wearing a helmet.

Oviously they could be in a state without a mandatory helmet law.

In that scenario, I would bet the girl wanted a ride and the owner only had a helmet for himself. He'd probably even loan her the helmet if it fit her, but it's probably way too big for her, making it useless. The rider in this case cares enough to wear a helmet even though he doesn't have to, but simply doesn't have a supply of extra sizes hanging off his bike to accomodate someone wanting a ride. He may also be wearing leathers etc, and she is wearing short shorts, bikini top, sandals. Seen that one too a few times.

Although, in states that may not require helmets, some still require them for passengers under 16-18 depending.

I always wear a helmet. I consider my brain to be one of my favorite organs.
But I also defend to RIGHT of every mother-loving, half-witted bikerboy out there to ride without a helmet, it he so chooses.
After all, I may need an organ someday, too.
If his girlfriend wants to be the donor following their next crash, more power to her.
There is no excuse for not wearing a helmet, other than personal stupidity. Sorry about that, boys, but them's the facts. Modern helmets are vented, come in a bazillion styles and shapes and some are even air-conditioned! There is just no reason not to wear them except a desire to look "cool" by the standards established in some 1950s Hollywierd movie.
But that's okay by me.
Be stupid. Just sign your effing donor card.

Just a quick comment about chopperchopster's answer. If helmets are soooooooo dangerous to wear, because of all the points you raise, why do MotoGP, World Superbike, MotoX; and all other professional bike riders wear them?
I agree education decreases fatalities, but it's no replacement for safety wear.
Here in the UK it's mandatory for all riders to wear helmets (except Sikhs, because religion overules law) and these helmets must conform to several safety standards (and be securely fastened at all times). Obviously, helmets are not gonna save your skull in extreme impacts, but I'd rather not take the risk of not wearing one. (I had enough head injuries as a kid, falling off a bike)
Anyway, who wants a face full of flies when you're out to enjoy yourself? Not me!

for all you morons who want to tell me I should wear a helmet here are the real helmet facts: The government impact standard for helmets is only 13 miles per hour.Hemets cut off perifferal vision.helmets reduce hearing. Helmets are an extra 3 to 5 pounds and can break your neck in an accident. And finally states that have mandatory rider education classes have LOWER fatality stats than those with a helmet law.People in cars usually suffer head wounds in collisions, maybe we should make people in cars wear helmets!LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE!!!!!!!

Dpending on which state it is in. Certain states do not require riders to wear a helmet while others do. A lot of people feel that the helmet is restricting and deminishes the enjoyment of riding. I think being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life would deminish the enjoyment even more.

I think you have to be over 16 to not wear a helmet in Texas... I don't know the law, but I think anyone who has any brains at all would put helmets on...
