Most definitely. He was a far superior hitter to B. Robinson, and that is more valuable than defense. On the other side, he was a great glove with good range.
Santo suffers from playing for the Cubs and an unfair comparison to Brooks Robinson.

Absolutely, and I am not a Ron Santo fan. The Hall of Fame is stacked with power-hitting position players, but there is a great deal more to the game than that. Santo was always a dangerous opponent, whether at bat or in the field, and probably never got the recognition he deserved, even as a player.
I feel that the Hall of Fame needs to be a bit more open, which is diametrically opposed to the philosophy of both the writers and the Veterans' Committee.

certain. As does Gil Hodges: 18 seasons, 273 AVG., 370 HR, a million,274 RBI, 8 time All-favourite individual, 3 Gold Gloves (received first Gold Glove even as the award become given to the finest significant leaguer on the placement). He also has the second one maximum HRs interior the significant leagues for the years 1950-1959 and the most RBIs interior the nationwide League for an same years. He also holds the record for Sacrifice Flies in a season -- 19 in 1954. A nicely-respected guy and embellished WWII Marine. Neither will make it in, although. The Veteran's Committee, in its countless information, has chosen no individual on its very last 2 ballots. an same adult males (plus some extra youthful gamers) will vote back in 2009. what's to regulate their minds? bill Mazeroski? an concepts-blowing participant -- i'd want him on my crew. yet a HOF'er?

Not really...after all Brooks Robinson hit 268HR's in 23 years, Ron Santo only hit 362HR's in 15 years....Robinson hit .267, Santo only hit .277....Robinson 2848 hits - Santo 2254....OB% Robinson .322 - Santo .362....SGL Robinson .401 - Santo .464...Robinson did have a better fielding % .971 to Santo .954....But Santo had better range as hard as that is to believe....in 23 years Robinson had 500+TC 7 times....Santo did it 8 years in a row....
Yes Ron Santo probable belongs in the HOF....But you have to remember Brooks won the AL MVP in 1964 and he put on one hell of a show against the Reds in the WS...

Maybe the beer drinking hall of fame. Cubs fans love him, the rest of the world doesn't care.
