Our government has information management problems, when a very small group of people with power decides to make a story up, and push it on to people as fact, a lot of people sadly have a tendency to believe that story, in spite of the thousands of people with the facts but not the power

Well, in the United States, The People 'are' the government, and I think there's quite a few people that are kind of choked about this or that circumstance around the world. I think our interests would be better served, though, by a return to focusing on problems IN america. We've got some doozies, too, and they're compounded by past years' bad policies on some Important Issues.

I don't know if it's possible to avoid war, in this world. Someone somewhere on the globe has always popped a fuse about something or other, and somehow mysteriously, america always gets invited to clean up others' problems. I think that should end.
Other countries need to solve their own problems. We should work harder on solving ours. And, as always, the best way to solve a problem ONCE is to teach the person/people having a problem how to take care of themselves. It goes back to the 'independence' thing, remember that thing at the top, there, the Declaration Of Independence? If you read it, they talk about King George of England, and the way that his government treated the then-colonies in the United States. British soldiers routinely mistreated american colonists, stole from them, moved into their homes, basically helped themselves. It was ugly. So, the american colonists united, and banded together, formed an army, and threw the british government OUT of their new country. It was a painful birth, no telling how many died, but suffice it to say it was probably a blood-bath. From the ashes of those battles arose our Constitution, and the country you see around you today.

UN-fortunately, many people seem to have completely slept through history class, been taught their history incorrectly, or just didn't give a damn because they were too busy doing other things in school. So, there you have it, america's the end product of a war, our great-great-great forebears decided to form their own country in the New World, and now we have cellphones and PDA's, an appointment in 10 minutes, and too much information.
Are we short-sighted when we don't get what we want, start demanding stuff from others? You betcha. But, a lot is demanded FROM americans, too, and it's as much a symptom of our times as a reaction to those that in turn demand from us.
I think science is going to be our salvation, though, as people figure out new ways to do for themselves, which is getting pretty trendy these days in america, I think you'll see less interest in obtaining resources from other countries anymore. Between recycling, conservation, and new technologies to make new materials, I think 'american made' is going to make a Big Comeback.

By the way, we lose about 1/4 million americans a year to accidents, disease etc. Death's a fact of life. I have no way of knowing how many people on this planet die per day, but I'll bet it's well above that. As many again are born, cycle of life etc.
I don't think war is necessarily avoidable in this world, not as long as there's 2 people that want the exact same thing, and there's only one to be had....

It seems so. Like every 7 years they create wars that use up all the old bombs, kill thousands on both sides and blow up everything so they can get contracts to build it all back in the remaining years between wars. We have to start to find a better way to vote for the leaders we think we elect to lead our country. Who do they really work for because I don't know of too many people other than the government who wanted to pick a fight with Saddam Hussein and his fellow citizens of Iraq. I don't even know anyone from Iraq. Do you? And if you did are there reasons you want to invade his country?

Look politics is the taking from one group and giving to another. One of the most efficient ways of doing this is war. War gives the party in control money they don't even have to give to the people who put them in control. So people got to die in the process, no big deal, if it's done right the dumb voters will give you a standing O for doing it.

Oh come now, you know that if the French, Russians and Germans hadn't been playing footsie under the table with Saddam, they would have joined us in removing him from power.

I think liberals have a whining problem, which reaches back to their inability to manage their anger.
