My answer is the same as yours. Fear!
I believe that fear is the basis of every other negative emotion. Fear wears a lot of masks but if you strip the masks you will find fear behind anger, jealousy, and hatred.
I am of the opinion that Faith is the opposite of fear. Eliminate fear what you have left is Faith.

Great question, and a lot of great answers. When you think about actually giving up an emotion, even the 'negative' ones start to take on value; they all seem useful in some circumstance or other. Fear is useful when there really is a hand beneath the bed, for example, and anger is useful when people are walking all over you for no good reason. Shame is good too: shouldn't all those world cup divers have a sense of shame? They're ruining the game! I guess I'd agree with the person who said 'hatred'; perhaps we could get by without hatred, but just a sense of resolve and justice. A couple of other emotions we could do without are spite and envy.

But here's an interesting thought: some philosophers, beginning with the ancient Stoics, thought all the emotions are connected; that you can't get rid of one without getting rid of all the others. Whether or not that's true, it's interesting to think about. The Stoics thought we'd be better off without ANY emotions; others, like Aristotle, think we'd be better off with them.

Fear

Fear and self doubt. I also fear death...or think about it frequently. I used to be a lot worse about it. I actually would lock myself in the bathroom sometimes and cry my eyes out because the reality of "death" was so strong in my mind. I was scared of dying too young or in a horrible and painful way. Whenever I am in a car it is on my mind. I don't obsess about it...but it's always in the back of my mind. I think it kinda helps you to appreciate life more. But sometimes the fear does keep you from doing things...like, I won't get on an airplane--therefore I'm missing out on things. I just fear heights and the thought of the plane crashing or being attacked by terrorists. It would be nice not to worry about it, but some people have fear ingrained into their brains. Good luck to you at trying to overcome your fears.

I don't want any emotion entirely stripped away from me, because I think we feel emotions for a reason. To some extent everyone should experience every emotion at some point, but hopefully not in excess. For me I wish I wouldn't cry as much as I do. I know it's just that my hormones get all out of whack because of my age, but it still sucks.

I agree with the girl who answered right before me... so true girl!

Everyone fears death whether they admit it or not. I fear pain. I hate pain. Pain is in fear, too. I don't want to have any pain, but without pain, how do we know when we are hurt? So, I guess, I never want to be hurt.

None...I need all of them to function in society and its up to me to control their influences over me...Im not greatly religous, but I think thats why God gave us the ones we have....I think if you lost one, another would overcompensate and it might not be the one you want so its best to have a level field of emotions...Dont fear fear..control it!
Remember Everyone has fear, its those who control it ,that fear fears! lol if that makes sense or something like that ...good luck!

None. I may not like some of my emotions but they are part of who I am. It does not RULE my world, though. And hey...isn`t it one of life`s accomplishments to OVERCOME those fears?
Being afraid and STILL going after what you want or what you think is right, that`s what makes you BRAVE.

Envy, i believe that out of that comes all the other "bad" emotions people feel. Anger, fear, and hatred.
