How do I clean my stainless steel coffee cup?

I have a portable coffee cup that I love, but it is beginning to smell like mildew. Yuck! It makes my morning cup of tea not so pleasurable. Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean it? I tried soap and water, but the soap smell just mixed with the mildew smell.

I assume this must be a covered cup that you can't reach inside very easily to clean out. If you want a method that doesn't use harsh or poisonous chemicals then take a handful of sand, regular old sand from a beach or sand box. add some water, close the cup. and shake vigorously for a minute. Then rinse it out. You can follow up with soap and water if your not comfortable about the idea of outdoor sand, but it's really not necessary especially since you seem to be mostly ok with drinking out of a cup with mildew. I actually appreciate the fact that you do.

Soak it in water with bleach in it...wash and rinse, should be clean as a whistle. It is the plastic or rubber that is the culprit, not the stainless steel. Good luck

I find the best thing to clean my stainless steel mug & thermos is a scouring product like Comet or Ajax or anything like that. It comes perfectly clean just like the sink. Just make sure that you're rinsing well enough. (I also like to use SOS pads but they scratch. If you don't want scratches, use the first thing I recommended)

There is a product called Bar Keepers Friend that I use all the time. It is great for stainless steel and is cheap.

LET IT SOAK IN VINEGAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THEN PUT BOILING WATER IN IT THAT WILL TAKE THE SMELL OUT

Try some of the CLR or similar cleaners.

you can clean it with bleach. bleach will also kill the harmful mildew.
