Im looking for some large Koi carp for my pond. Ideally, i want them to be from about 9" to about 12" in size. We want blacky/orange ones and silver/grey kinds-we have found some, but dont know what kind of price they usually sell for? Does anyone know or have a rough idea of the prices please? Also, how long do they live for-obviously so long as a nieghbours cat gets them!! If there is no danger (like cats, herons etc!) whats a Koi carps life span please!?

€60 here for approx 8" to 10", although no cats or herons about, keep an eye on your koi, if you haven't set up your pond yet, they are buggers for jumping out of the pond, and that's fine if there's an incline so they roll back to the water, it is something to think about. in any case ask your aquarium center how you might deal with that, and they will elborate, I paid €160.00 for a nice koi, and put him in pond, next morning it was on the ground beside the pond, that was when I mentioned it to aquarium center, and they told me about the jumping, so I kept an eye on pond and now I can verify what they said was true, it can be really annoying after you have paid a lot for a nice one.

A koi of that size would cost about £ 200 +
I would buy smaller fisg at about £30 and watch them grow for real details on koi keeping check out this link below
you require filters pumps and uv light units to keep them properly as if you are paying the sort of money asked for them you want to see them properly
I have kept them for many years and love them I can hand feed them and my grandaughter gets them to suck on her fingers she gets fits of laughter when they do the most I have paid for a fish is £60 and that died courtesy of the local cats

How long is a piece of string !!! seriously though it depends where you go. do you shop at harrods or aldi ? I would guess if you want one thats already 12 " then probably around £100.
Better if you buy them smaller and cheaper and watch them grow.
I bought my father-in-law one about 2 years ago for about £15 aprox 4-6" its now grown to about 12". They tend to grow to match the size of your pond.bigger the pond the bigger they grow.

i would expect to pay between £25 and £35 for one that size and it also depends if its a Japanese one (dearest) or an Israel one. dont worry about life span as long as they have good living conditions they would probably out live you.
