Alright, time to cut through all of the crap, this site is riddled with people that have nothing better to do than spout off what they have seen on Cartoon Network or YouTube. Here are some you might like that aren't in the US. They aren't mainstream, so it might be a nice change of pace.

xxxHolic (TV)
http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/788.html
Kimihiro Watanuki is a young boy with a cursed gift. He has the ability to see evil spirits, and somehow they seem attracted to himself. One day he meets a misterious woman who names herself Yuuko. She claims to have the means to end his torment, but she never works for free, and she wouldn't help him until he works for her enough to pay for her services. Thus he starts to work in her shop and discovers that in that place, nothing is what it seems.

KIBA

Zedd is a 15-year-old boy who lives in Calm. He is frustrated by daily life, and he's seeking for the place to try his possibilities.

One day, a mysterious wind invites him to a time-space crevasse. He dives into the crevasse seeking for the answer that might be there.

Where he lands is another world. There, "Shadow Casters" have been fighting against each other endlessly using “Shadow”, which is a crystal of magical power. With the power of Shadow, the Shadow Caster uses magic and monsters called "Split".

Fascinated by the power, Zedd wants to be a Shadow Caster. However, he doesn't know that a big Spirit, "Amil Gaul", lies in his body, and that its power is so large as to influence the future of this world.

Windaria

Two rival kingdoms vie for fresh water and in the process end up destroying their entire society. As seen through the eyes of an innocent go-between, this tragic story details the depths to which loyalty and everlasting love must be tested, in a futile attempt to save a world from total destruction.

Those are unlicesensed series you may like. As far as buying them on DVD, you might enjoy the following

Gunslinger Girl (My personal favorite.)
"Henrietta" was an innocent little girl when her entire family was massacred and she was left for dead. She was rescued by a privately-owned social welfare organization and given cybernetic components over her battered body. Brainwashed by the organization, she and four other girls now work as cold-blooded assassins, doing the dirty work for the Italian government

Haunted Junction
Saito High is a high school with its spiritual beings and a principal whose hobby is collecting occult paraphernalia. The school has the prophecy-chosen members of the Holy Student Council to protect it. These students have problems of their own; Haruto Houjo, the president, has a way of summoning spirits, and would resign from his duty for a normal life if it weren't for the principal. Kazumi Ryodo, the next member, is good at being possessed and has something for the Hanako. The last member is Mutsuki Asahina, who is a master of exorcism and is attracted to small boys. Unfortunately, these three are in charge of keeping the school in line and defending the world from supernatural beings, and this mission brings them through wacky predicaments.

Some stuff you'll have to discover on your own if you like it or not.

The links I gave for the series can also take you to a master list, and it also links you to descriptions.

Hope you find something you like.

It seems like you're into action type of shows so I'd recommend Black Cat, Full Metal Panic, S-cry-ed, My HiMe, Eureka 7, Fafner in the Azure, Sorcerer Stabber Orphen, Outlaw Star, Samurai 7, and Ghost in the Shell.

Some others that are really worth checking out are The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Blood+, Chrno Crusade, and Scrapped Princess.

Have you tried Ranma 1/2 - It's by Rumiko Takahashi but it's very different from her InuYasha story. Stick with it past the first 4 episodes (figuring out the production style and story arcs).

Based on your list I would also recommend the OAV, El Hazard. An epic story with a good amount of humor, but a serious plot line.

Macross Plus is, of course, a must.

Hummm... modern, I'd be sure to check out, Last Exile. - Another epic story, great animation, especially in the area of fleet actions.

I recommend Samurai 7. It is an excellent anime with interesting characters. Peacemaker Kurogane is also very good. Black Cat and Get Backers have a very good mix of drama, action, and comedy, though not quite as much emotional jerking as Fullmetal can give ya. Hope this helps, I got plenty more along those lines if you want to know more.

have you read rurouni kenshin, or trigun, or cowboy bebop, or inuyasha??? these animes, and mangas have a lot of action as well as humor and a little romance as well as scary situations, so theres something for everyone in them. i'm also a big fan of one piece, and thats a funny adventurous story about pirates! check out shonen jump for excerpts from other mangas too, you can get it at any book store, or even walmart or picknsave on the first tuesday of each month!
