i asked the same question: "do you take your star sign seriously?" and to my amazement, almost 80% of the answerers said that they do. many said that their horoscope is true and it relates to their personality. i was unbelievably astonished by the number that said, "yes". me, on the other hand, i don't believe in my star sign. i just read for pleasure. i do not take it seriously.

Yes, a lot of people do. If you go to any bookstore there is a section called Astrology where many people have written books about it. And it's not new. Astrology has been around for a long time, I think it was started by the ancient greeks.

It is based on the exact time of your birth. Apparently the placement of the planets at that exact moment in time, determine what your personality will be like and some other stuff about your life.

Astrology keeps going strong because while it is called a pseudoscience, a lot of times the things it says are true. If you know your time of birth, you can get a free astro chart and interpretation at http://www.astro.com

Possible mechanism that links the date of your birth to fate in life?: it's the relationships between the planets and the aspects they make. Let's say someone has their Sun conjunct the planet Venus (love, beauty), you can instantly tell that they are probably tall, or very good looking. Let's say someone has Venus conjunct their ascendant (rising sign), this means they probably have a very likeable personality. By looking at someone's ascendant you can sometimes tell what the person will look like: air signs often have a more refined appearance.

If someone has a lot of fixed signs (Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, Taurus) in their chart, they probably are very stubborn and are content just going with the status quo, and not making many big changes in their life. Where as people with many cardinal signs, (Capricorn, Cancer, Libra, Aries) are go getters and like to take much action in life.

People who are stubborn and skeptic will always find ways to diminish astrology, but if they took a chance to research more about it with an open mind, they might come away with good insights into themselves and the people around them.

The book of Genesis in the bible makes it clear that the stars and planets were to be used for signs---of course that can mean a lot of things but-in this case it just may be true..The study of Astrology is different than a horoscope-although each person is an individual-groups of people show similar personality traits--I am a cusp-Taurus-who is known for being stubborn-money lovers-and serious-and Gemini who is known for having dual personalities and can be considered flighty-spend thrifts, and restless-If you know any Taurus people you will know that they too are bullheaded -hardworking and no nonsense. If you know any Gemini's you have witnessed the fact that one minute they are one way and the next minute they are totally different---

Well it’s a fact that the day you are born is represented in numbers therefore the numbers must link us to a higher power thereby manifesting them selves in our life. don’t you believe that the day you were born was the day you were born. That must mean something right. Of course not , don’t be ridiculous if you believe this you probably believe you won the Canadian Lotto that you never entered.

People believe in it because they make them so generalized they can fit almost any ones life in one way or another. Go ahead and read a bunch of horoscopes for the different signs, they are all kind of similar and very general, nothing specific too them.

I think people relation to horoscopes is like their relation to weather reports, if it sounds plausible they believe it, if not they don't.
But when it happens they think "oh it was right all along", when it doesn't they say "I new they were completely wrong".

Either relation cannot be explained, it just is like that.
Although we can realize the weather cannot be controlled and weather forecasts are wrong most times we cannot stop ourselves of checking it anyway.

Yes, people believe it. What I believe is anything that a person believes will happen is going to. Like they dwell on it until it does happen.
