NO

it is not terrible,
I believe you are doing the correct thing,
You provide your son with shelter, food, clothes, and all his medical and scholastic needs right?

i did not write the book on allowance, however, this is a good time for him to
learn household responsibilities, which we all have, and i will assume that the father, your husband helps around the house,

It takes a lot to keep a house clean and orderly, it is neverending--work work work ,, and if your son does not help wth the chores, then how will he ever be sucessful with a roommate, and then when he marries,?

i THINK THAT AN ALLOWANCE IS GREAT, I ALSO BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN SEPERATE BOTH IF YOU WANT AND SAY, HERE IS YOUR ALLOWANCE,
NOT FOR HOURS CHORES, JUST FOR YOU,

AND YOU STILL HAVE TO DO HOURSECHORES BECAUSE YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THIS HOUSEHOLD, AND OLD ENOUGH TO SPEND MONEY, THEN OLD ENOUGH TO PICK UP AROUND THE HOUSE AND HELP.

WELL, MAYBE THAT MAKES LITTLE SENSE BECAUSE WHAT IF HE SAID THEN I DON'T WANT AN ALLOWANCE FOR CHORES, (I WOULD STILL MAKE HIM DO CHORES).. HIS WIFE ONE DAY WILL APPRECIATE EXTRA HELP, IT TAKES EVERYONE WHO SHARES A HOME TO HELP, AND THEN IT LIGHTENS THE BURDEN, AND IT IS CONSIDERATE, AND GOOD LEARNING SKILLS FOR THE HOME ARE THE END RESULT,,

GOOD LUCK

There are some chores that should be done without pay, just to teach responcbility like taking out the trash or doing dishes. Then have other chores that do earn allowence, like mowing the lawn or washing the car...ect. This was you have a balance, and it teaches him that everyone must help out as a family.

No, the way you proceed in your tone and how you handle it does.

My daughter is 4, I tell her to put the plates on the table and I will give her a sticker or a dollar, she does it with pride and gets all excited.
The reason why she enjoys it is not just b/c she's four and a girl, but b/c the aftermath is not just a sticker or a dollar , it's PRAISE.

Positive Reinforcement, look it up.

Although, applying this to everything would be harmful, balance, balance is the key.

Good Luck.

i think it is good for males to do chores around the house when they are boys that way they learn to do things for themselves and not depend on their girlfriends/wives.nothing worse then having a guy who cant help around the house with the daily chores of keeping the house clean or cant cook supper for his wife while she is on her way home from work.

No, It is not so terrible. For that is also a way of getting him ready for the world outside when he is older. It's just like us when we go to work and get paid. Also it will teach him good values and responsiblities.

no b/c kids like money and he probably wouldnt do the chores if he didnt get money. see you both get something. u get a clean house and he gets money. then every one is happy. except if he doent do his chores right and you dont give hom money for doing a crappy job. but that probably wont happen.

no its not. it shows them that money doesnt grow on trees. growing up i was expected to do chores without any kind of allowance. your son should be thankful that he at least gets the opportunity to make money! besides, as parents, we arent supposed to grow our children up to be people who dwell on material things of the earth, and this can happen by spoiling them. you teach them more than just how to make money by asking them to help.
