Just so you know, not only neocons (why not just say "conservative"?) have a problem with the question. I, as a libertarian, also do not accept the assumption on which it is based - that poverty can be ended at all. There will always be people who choose not to work hard enough to succeed, or happen to live in areas with no development or opportunity, or are oppressed by non-representative governments, or make bad decisions that lead to unfortunate lifestyles. This is not the fault of the rich, or the rest of us.

because they apparently don't want anyone to help poor people and they think if a baby is poor.. .it's the baby's fault, because the baby hasn't bothered to get an education, it won't work and all it does it sit around and cry all day...
he's done 10 times more than Bush has... if you look at it... which conservatives have no idea what he has done... and he's a ROCK STAR... and Bush is the PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.... basically Bush could do so much more so easily, if he wanted too, but a ROCK STAR is doing more than he is...
Jawhn K: how much does he donate? do you think he doesn't donate any? that's naive... do you think he shouldn't have a nice house because he cares? that's silly...
so you hate every rich person more because they all live in nice houses are 99 percent aren't even doing a much as Bono?

We pay enough all the 3rd world does is steal its wasted money
All the bleeding hearts feel good when its someone Else's money. Its a rip off the people that need it don't get it. Its the local government that takes. But people like Bono feel good what a crock

The main reason is because no matter how much money you waste in these areas the wealthy will still end up with it and there will never be an end to the poverty.

He lectures rich countries for the need to save the poor and starving, yet Bono lives a posh and exorbitant life.
#########################################
He lectures people without money about saving lives. If I gave 80% of my income to the poor, I would save few if any people and be starving myself, if Bono did, he would save many, and still be a millionaire. And STILL he lives an exorbitant life.
########################################
He goes directly to Africa, looks the dying right in the eye, and still doesn't seem to be troubled to return to his mansion and live an exorbitant life.
########################################
The question isn't what positive he is doing, he is doing much, the question is of the moral and ethical rationalization of on one hand, being consumed to the point of being frantic to the plight of others starving and dying everyday, and on the other, of being able to turn that off and resume the exorbitant life of a multi-millionaire. I would feel the same if a morbidly obese person scolded me about my diet and exercise!

Perhaps this is the attitude of those who feel powerless. They don't realize the strength of individual power when many pull together for something worthy of their effort. One millionaire cannot stop world poverty alone.

Even though I consider myself a bit conservative, I don't feel that I am in that classification...Anyway, I'm going to say that it's because they distrust anyone with an ounce of money or fame. They feel like they have a handle on human nature, and it's all bad!
