I just moved into a new place. It has hardwood and laminate. I have always had carpet so I'm not sure of the best way to clean these types of floors. I tried mopping with a sponge mop but it just seemed to spread soap and water around the floor. I tried to not use too much water. Any short cuts to cleaning these floors?

i have 2800 sq ft of hardwood on my floors and my wife uses a hardwood cleaner/polisher from pledge...works great... she just squirts it on the floor and uses a sponge mop on it and it looks great

Personally, i would not use a laminate flooring in a kitchen or any room where water is used. All you have to do is spill a cup of water on the floor and it is ruined and you will have to rip up the entire thing. Over the years I have had things happen like sink drains become loose and leak, flooding the floor, overflows from the dishwasher, spilling water from containers, and any of these would destroy a laminate floor. My recommendation would be not to use a laminate floor in a kitchen. People who are interested in selling you a liminate floor will tell you otherwise, but I have installed these things and I have seen what happens when water gets onto the floor. It's not something you want to have. Go with a vinyl tile floor with waterproof adhesive (at the very least) and even better is a ceramic tile floor (if installed properly. Putting a laminate floor in a kitchen is just asking for trouble.

Hardwood and Laminate floors should never be washed with water because if enough waters gets in between the seams the wood will swell especially laminate flooring. Other answers I saw recommended hardwood and laminate cleaners. I recommend these cleaners also with a dry mop. Soap and water will just leave streaks on the finish of the hardwood and laminate flooring.

NO WATER! I always used mop n glow on hardwood, and just plain dusters on laminate. If the laminate was dirty, I used as little liquid as possible of whatever I was using. GL

please don't use water on your laminate flooring, it wil ruin it. water will cause the laminate to separate and it will peel right off.even spilling water on these floors is enough to riun them.

there are plenty of different floor cleaners made just for laminate and wood flooring. i think mr. clean has a cleaner for these floors.go down the aisle where the mops are and it will be there..

good luck.
