Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina. Also, Virginia and Florida were part of the Confederacy, but culturally they aren't so Southern, anymore. Oklahoma is more Southern by virtue of its culture. Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Missouri claim they are Southern because they were border states during the Civil War. Maryland and Delaware are not Southern states by any means.

My picks are...
To live in:
1. TEXAS is awesome! Great people, food, weather, cultures
2. Mississippi: Sweet people, great scenery, very laid-back
3. Alabama: Much like Mississippi, I just like MS a little better
4. West and Middle Tennessee: Close to family in Kentucky, great recreational opportunities

Not to live in:
1. Kentucky: Rude people, overpriced cost of living given such a poor job marker, Louisville is snooty, weather is unpredictable
2. Florida: Rude folks, boring
3: Virginia: Too "yankee"
4. West Virginia: Rude, no job

I would love to move back to Texas! I LOVE San Antonio! And ***** Last Resort... what a fricken awsome place! The people are respectful and just amazing and it is multi-cultural which is something my family needs as we are very mixed.
Florida would be nice but only for a little while, Florida, N/S Carolina, I love the weather and the oceans and such it would be a good transition from Hawaii where I currently live.

I would NEVER move to Virginia or West Virginia.... way too racist. There is no way my husband would make it out alive.... he fights back hard!

Virginia is the 9th richest state in the USA per capita. Florida is the only other state in the south that is above average in income.

You threw those out right away and leave the (poor) remainder of the Confederacy! Ugh! The bottom of the barrel is West Virginia, very poor because it is very crooked. Fewer people live in West Virginia than a century ago. Young people flee to Ohio and Virginia as soon as they finish high school.

The South without Virginia or Florida -- well, pick one of the boomtowns, such as Atlanta or Charlotte.

I like the deep south -- everyone's friendly, and the food's pretty good. I wouldn't want to live in Mississippi, though -- some strange, backwards stuff down in the bayous.

Arkansas and Florida are the ONLY places in the south I will EVER live. I hate southern attitudes, stupidity, laziness, biggotry, the list goes on. I probably will never leave Northwest Arkansas, because the further south and east you go from here, the worse it gets.
