It would be almost impossible to actually get a good "look" at the sex organs as the baby is less than 3" long (crown to rump) at this stage. The earliest I've heard is 16 weeks, with most being done between 18 and 20.

Gender is not usually accurately visualized until after week 14, as the external genitalia are still developing. Most people will have a scan at 16-20 weeks, during which you may be able to see (if the baby is cooperating)! Anything you see at 12.5 weeks is little better than a guess... but hey! You've got a 50% chance of being right!

an ultrasound can show the sex at 16 weeks, however in some cases the gender has been predicted earlier. week 12 sounds too early though.

Typically we can tell at 14 weeks if the baby is in a perfect position, that is also with the best technology on the market and the best sonographers, that do nothing but OB scans. the thing people need to remember here is you are not really looking for genitalia, you are looking for three little white lines, this is the labia forming, no white lines and it's typically a boy. But even at 14 weeks, I would want to confirm the sex at a later scan.

Although the sex organs are present, it will probably be too early to get an accurate picture via ultrasound. Most doctors won't even attempt it until the 20th week or so. Good Luck!

I think that is too early. I had a friend who was told that she was having a boy at like 14 or 15 weeks and they were wrong i think that is just too soon. You have to be 18 weeks at least most drs wont even try to tell you untill then.

The earliest would be 16 weeks. And thats pushing it because the babys sex organs are still developing. In the beginning boys and girls look the same...that is how it would be on a 12 week fetus.

Too early to tell, the doctor will usually perform one around 5 months unless there is a history of defects or concerns for mothers health.
