Emo's been so overused nobody knows what it is anymore.
Emo originally started as the term for .. you could say, "emotional rock", which is simply a subgenre of punk..
And then.. the pop-punk bands took over and re-did the whole idea of "emo" and everything..
And then.. people started using emo as slang to describe someone who's depressed or dressed to match the stereotypes and stuff..
In contrast to the answer above, emo isn't a music genre "now", it's been around for a few decades, before "emo" became a label for stereotypes.

emo to me is the people that when u compliment the about something good or bad they cry and they always complain about something. and emo is punk music but not a punk music is emo.
most emo people wear tbaggy pants and lose shirts and they have neat haircuts. that is emo to me

Stupid kids that act all depressed even though they usually have absolutely no reason to be. They made a culture out a of a decent type of music. If you're emo and don't like it, sue me.

hahaha. emo means an "emotionally depressed person." my friends used to joke about that a lot.
there is a genre of rock now referred as emo also. it means that they sing about dying and depressing stuff. screamo, is the same stuff, but in scream form.
no, i am not emo.
