Japanese also says "cheese".
Here's Another way,
Photographer says "ichi tasu ichi wa" which means "one plus one makes", and photographed says "ni" which means "two".

â¡I've lived in Japan for almost 9 years now and whenever we take pictures or I take pictures everyone usually says 'chizu' (chee-zoo), which is basically 'cheese' in Japanese. This is true! Also, some people like to make the peace sign too. Like this:

I usually never do itâ though. But I'm American, so that could be why!(*^o^*) Hope this helps!â¡

do you really say cheese, any word will get you to open your mouth say you dont look like a zombie. photographers just want to see your teeth. i tell them the only person who sees my teeth is my dentist. and if you do what the photographer says mind if i put a chain around your neck and lead you around like a monkey and ill even let you grind my organ

Most of the time they say 'cheeeeeeezu'!! Very long eeeee!!
But more recently people have started saying 'Disney Seeeeeeeeeeeeea!!' as a sort of joke..! You still get the 'eeeee' that makes the smile look good!
; )
I don't know whether people thought of it themselves though, I suspect that there may have been adverts when Disney Sea opened that used the joke to get people's attention..!

Mostly they do the stupid "peace sign" with a big toothy stupid smile. I used to live with a guy from Japan and he use to talk about how he was completely disgusted by it.
