Leopard geckos are undoubtedly one of the best reptile pets available today. They are easy to care for, extremely docile, do not require a large cage, easy to breed, and come in an array of color morphs. I have been breeding leopard geckos for many years and have produced thousands of leopard geckos over the years. They are also very inexpensive to care for.
Here is a link to a care sheet from a website that I often visit:

Get a bearded dragon. They are very common lizard pets and you can let them roam around the house once they become adults. They are not actually huge and big like a dragon and usually grow to 10 inches when fully grown i think. I had one but took it back only because it became to much to take care of it but if your willing to put up with taking care of the pet then go for it. I suggest looking them up online first.

what's your experience level? a good beginner lizard would be a leapord gecko or a bearded dragon. beardies get quite big but are very docile. i've had my leopard gecko for 15 years and besides a water bowl and a regular supply of insects, she's been a dream. easy to care for with very basic requirements, and little cost. actually one of my favorites out of 7 lizards.

forget the lizard, get a dachshund, the lizard lives in a glass cage under funky light no friendship no loyalities. A dachshund can go with you almost any where they will love you and are an extremely loyal friend.

I would say leopard gecko; they're ridiculously cute, and are reasonably active for lizards (mine does yoga!). They're pretty fast if warmed up, so be careful not lose him/her if you take it out of the cage!

fat tailed geckos are easy to take care of and are normally slow and sweet, they eat cricket, and grasshoppers, normaly live 8 -10 years, and grow to about 9-12 inches. I think fat tailed geckos are best. they have a tail the shape of their head,so they can be a bit starling looking the first time you see one, they are quite good at scaring babysitters off.

Get a Crested Gecko... they are super cute, hardy, not too expensive, don't need heating lamps (but do need a lamp for light), can walk up walls and jump like frogs.

Chameleon. They are so bizzare. They are also slow, so they won't run away. I had one for a long time. But you'll have to put up with buying live crickets...
