I am trying to figure out what processor to buy, either the AMD Athlon Xp 2200 processor or the AMD Sempron 2600 processor? These two processors are the only two compatable processors left on the market for socket A motherboards. The first one is the latest processor while the second has a faster FSB.

I guess from what I'm seeing here that I would get the sempron over the Athlon XP performance wise. Price wise, I'd get the Athlon XP, the only difference I can see here is the clock speed is a bit slower, but you'll never notice that amount of slowness between the two! .033 ain't a heck of a lot of clock speed! Even .20 isn't worth the $30 more it would cost you! The price you pay is like $10 more for that .033 of speed and $30 more to get you to a full 2GHz
.
This is what I found surfing around:

Look for some used processors on ebay.

Or just look harder for some online stores.

It is socket A/Socket 462

Try to get a Barton (130nm) core, it is the most advanced, 512kb cache, higher front side buss... there were up to 3300+ models. If you overclock it you could have a decent system, and even get a nvidia 7800gs agp 8x video card and play most of the latest games. Do more research to ensure compatibility.

K7 is a motherboard not a processor and you don't want to buy a sempron. Get an athlon 64 FX for gaming, they're fast as ever.

i suggest upgrading to a socket 754 or a socket 939. if that's out of the question, go with the sempron. I have a sempron 2500+ 64-bit and it can handle everything i throw at it. I can run applications like HL2 and media player together, and it doesn't skip a beat.

i think the xp line has the 512K cache and the semprons have 256K cache. then again, i hear you can overclock semprons to ludicrous speeds.
