How did the Irish get the tag of all being a bit simple? I know quite a few Irish people who I would say are 'easy going' but no more thick than anyone else...... so what have they done to deserve this ridicule?

from Ireland.
if you have a lanky (tall for those who don't know what lanky is) lad you often hear people call him shorty (meaning short) that is a contrasting nickname as he is very tall.

So what has that to do with the answer?
Same thing really, because the Irish are so bright (thats intelligent for those who don't know what bright means in this context) then they are called thick as a nickname, same contrasting sort of name as first example.

It's nice of you to say we are "easy going" you heard the proverb "Slowly Slowly catchee monkee"
by the way most of my friends do NOT drink, and most of them do not smoke either, not even wacky baccy

When Irish use the saying, "Thick Mick" for example, the don't mean stupid Mick they mean angry and liable to box your ears in Mick. It's not ridicule, it's just an Irish mans waying of saying your mans a grumpy fcuker.

And the other fellas right, the Americans are the dumbasses of this world!

Irish like to get pissed! Hic!

Excuse me!!! I have an Irish friend who is an astro physicist and I also have American friends who are much brighter than a lot of people.

I'm seriously beginning to think this board is just to bash others, ridicule and try to be as nasty as you can.

Americans suffer just like everyone else. The Irish have stupid people just like anyone else and surprise EVERYONE bleeds red, just-like-you.

And different fellas precise, the anybody is the dumbasses of this international! Irish opt to get pissed! Hic!

At one time anti-Irish sentiment ran high in England and an English magazine called 'Punch' caricatured Irish people as apes.

All the Hobits in the Lord of the Rings movie sort of resemble that stereo type. All you hear of Ireland is jokes about how the people all get drunk at pubs and slug each other. So therefore their "party, party, party!" image has caused it. Sad.... but seemingly true - the reason why, I mean - not that they're thick.
