I'm an outsider but it seems that the religous right has taken over the republican party. I mean I always thought republicans were for less government intrusion, yet in the last 6 years they've done more to increase government intrusion. i.e. - gay marriage amendment, patriot act, flag burning. With regards to the patriot act, I understand that terrorism is a threat, but by further limiting freedoms in the U.S., aren't the terrorists winning?

In regards to flag burning, isn't the flag just a symbol of our country? If it wasn't for the Constitution, the flag would be meaningless. So shouldn't we outlaw burning copys of the Constitution instead?

Actually no, I don't think the terrorists are winning, I think the United States is finally catching up with the rest of the world, in some respects, blunt and frank issue is that there's a Changed World out there, one with 6.5 billion people in it instead of 1 billion, 300 million americans where there used to be 200 million back in the early 70's...and the growth rate is astronomical, and people are flooding the far corners of the earth today. I think it was better in the past, too, but this is 2006, and some trends ain't turning around anytime soon. They expect 8 billion people in the world by like, 2030, maybe closer to 10, we'll see, and that's more and more people competing for already tight resources.
What kind of future do YOU see? I contest some of the things the GOP has spoken out against, but the gay marriage thing isn't about gays, like most issues, it's about money, benefits etc., companies don't want to pay benefits to more people, and since gays are the newcomers on that bandwagon, they're the first to get tossed right back off of it. The Patriot Act is an attempt to try, try and find those who've got murder and worse on their minds, again we've added 100 million since the 70's, some from god-knows-where, better to look than not to, I guess...the flag burning thing should have been added to the Constitution a long time ago. I don't think it's right for anyone to vandalize our flag by torching it, you can't really say much about something that happens somehere outside our country, but you can read someone the riot act about doing it in ours, and rightfully so, because that's an exercise of your own free speech. I think people that burn our flag in contempt like that are a) out to rouse a fight, b) connected somehow to some other country or c) just plain ignorant for their never having set foot outside the United States. We've got a good country, that flag is our symbol, if you appreciate being an american, you should buy one and keep it in good faith, if you don't appreciate being an american, move to somalia. You'll be sorr-reeeeee....

Patriot act makes it easier for the police to do their job. If you aren't doing anything wrong, its not an issue. I'm not bothered by it at all. I will put up with the added security at the airports, its not that big of a deal. Commercial flying in general is a nuisance, No service, packed planes, and delays and the added security is just another part of a bad experience.
Flag burning- I think our flag should be held in higher respect. You want the flag of the United states burned you still have the right to leave this nation.
Gay marriage - I have a problem with Gay marriage in name only. You want to call it gay unionization or whatever and do a legal form, go for it. Leave the marriage word out of it, and it may go further. The large majority of voters have voted this down, and I suspect the numbers are running pretty even between both parties shooting it down. So blame the voters, not George.
9/11 and the other recent terrorist attacks have caused these precautions to be put in place. We haven't lost that many freedoms that I am aware of to where you should feel in any way shape or form oppressed.
So in answer to your question, I will be outraged when there is something to be outraged about.

Conservatives who are outraged by their party have likely left the party and are not involved in politics. I left the party about two years ago because I didn't like how the party was run from the President on down. The Gay Marriage and the Flag Burning Amendment haven't passed yet. I am very concerned about the Partriot Act. It takes away many of our civil liberties under the Bill of Rights. By limiting our freedoms and terrorizing our citizens the federal government has actually made the problem worse. Terrorism is winning.

The Tea Baggers are procedures for the conservatives who favor to get the liberals out. they're no longer drawn to something else. in the adventure that they purely regarded on the 1040 tax tables from the awesome few years and compared them to 2009, that they had see that maximum of them are paying the same or decrease than 2-3-4 years in the past. Their cries of "we favor a lot less taxes" is hollow in face of the information. the position have they been for the awesome 8 years? Then got here Fox information bringing them to the front, manipulating pictures and organizing them. The Tea Baggers even put off indicators thanking Fox for organizational help. Now, no longer in ordinary words is Fox employing the same propaganda words used by employing the communists of the previous, (except with a acceptable ward slant), Fox is now manipulating the very information they recent, mirroring extra totally the procedures of those communists. Lenin must be proud (of the procedures albeit no longer the message). human beings want a lesson on propaganda.

The lines between liberalism and conservatism, when it comes to rights, are often confusing. Extreme liberals seem to think we have the right to do almost anything without having moral responsibilities. Extreme conservatives include the religious right which believes we should be driven by a higher authority. All extremists are willing to sacrifice our rights to gain what their own special interests demand. For the most part, we agree or disagree based on our own personal views...not rights in general.

Laws preventing smoking in outdoor areas could be considered depriving personal rights, but a non-smoker isn't going to argue the point because they simply oppose smoking, and not concerned with the rights of the individual. We are basically a self serving people who love to push our views on others. Put that n the hands of politicians, and they basically begin to believe they know what's best for the people...regardless of public opinion.

The political parties really exist as a means of funding campaigns. The people within them can very widely as to their views on rights and moral responsibility.

When it comes to big government, the biggest differences really have to do with social service type programs. Democrats want to take care of the people where Republicans want to make opportunities for people to take care of themselves. Because of that, Democrats can make people more dependent on government. If you want to keep receiving these tax supported social benefits, you better vote Democrat.

My Libertarian friends ARE outraged at the Republican Party. There arguments are hard to respond to because they are very sensible. Conservatives were supposed to be about people who did not like government intrusion of any kind, including military.
Now, "conservatives" are basically Neo Cons who care about 4 "issues."
1) Abortion (This amazes me, don't they realize these kids would be made into more Godless liberals and "terrorists (protestors)?")
2) Gay stuff (Not the biggest issue to me)
3) Flag burning (Ho Hum)
4) War is fun

They start wars (New York got attacked, NOT Texas) because they think it is FUN.
When they were kids their grandfather talked about the war he was in and showed them his old rifle, medals, etc, etc. This sense of nostalgia makes them proud and they feel they want to be a part of a "great battle too." Once in the army they spend countless hours training and training and training and training and training. They WANT to fight; and it’s hard to blame them. They want to be able to tell wars stories to their grandkids and put their military memorabilia on their walls because it makes them feel good. They don't want to spend their entire career training without fighting, what a waste, and imagine how disappointed the grandkids would be. If you have low expectations in life wouldn't it feel good to be called a "war hero?" Somehow nowadays they are able, (just like the Muslim crazies to bring poor ole peace loving long haired hippie Jesus (and the Muslim extremists drag in Allah) into all this BS). Oh ya one more time NEW YORK was attacked, NOT TEXAS (!!!).

There is no outrage because to most of them a single one of these four issues is more important then all the other problems in the world combined.
Bottom line, not everybody has the means or desire to go to college and/or acquire knowledge.
HOORAY for Conservatives (they are called Libertarians).
As for the extremists of ANY religion claiming to own God, history has shown countless times how these guys ALWAYS fade into obscurity.

I think it is a matter of what is important to you when you are coalition building. I am against those kind of measures and am for less government intrusion, but typically find less in common with Democrats on matters that mean more to me.

We're mad, but those are the wrong issues. The party and real conservatives have drifted apart due to the fact that so many libs have destroyed the party and turned it relatively Democrat.
