My cousin had temporary guardianship of my daughter and she claimed that she adopted her. I never knew about the adoption and I never recieved anything or signed anything, nor did her biological father. Are there free databases where I can find out if she was really adopted?

All of this will depend on whether when the state got custody of her, they took it to court and had your rights as her mother taken away.

Contact the local DFCS (department family children services) and talk to the placement director there. They should be able to tell you. If you did NOT sign papers, and the DFCS office tells you that this placement is only temporary, then your cousin is telling you a story, and I'd work really hard on getting that child back as soon as possible.

And good luck....I do wish you and your daughter my best!

I would consult an attorney for advice. Also, if you have the temporary agreement statement, go to the court and ask the court if it is the document is still in effect because you are interested in getting back full custody of your child. If they say the temporary statement is no longer in effect, ask them why and more than likely they will tell you. Good luck. I hope everything works out.
