Sometimes I see a red fox behind my house, and when I finally get my shoes on to go after him/her, he/her is gone! How can I attract the fox into my lawn, or, go out there and get him or her to come over to me. I want to pet him/her!

It's not a kit fox. This is a really big fox!

Do not do that. They are cute and look cuddly but they are wild animals. They will bite, if you could ever get close. Chances are if you get close the fox could have rabies. If you want to look at him from inside your house you could put an open can of sardines in the back yard and watch/wait from inside. They are not likely to go to it if you are outside.

You can't get close enough to a wild fox unless it has rabies. In that case it will attack you. It could rip your throat and kill you or just bite enough to give you rabies.
If the fox is healthy he will run as soon as he sees you.
They are too smart to let you sneak up on them.
Get some binoculars and stay safe in the house and don't play with knives.

Please don't try to pet him. Foxes are wild animals. Their reponse to being petted(if you ever got that close) would be to bite you. Somes foxes carry rabies. There was a tourist who came here to Alaska who wanted to kiss a moose. She tried and ended up in the hospital.

of corn , not to mention they can carry diseases
such as rabies , do not attract them close to your home

it sounds like a kit fox which is extinct in California,,,,,you might want to call your local animal shelter so that they can make sure the animal is not in harms way or sick........ be careful when trying to approach wild animals,,,you wouldnt want to get bit .....but,,,most Foxs' wont ever come directly up to you,,,,,, they will allow a safe distance between them selves and you.........

contact your local conservation dept. and try to find out more. there doesn't seem to be much vegetation in their diet, but you could try setting out dry dog food. even if the fox doesn't eat the kibble, it could attract mice, which are prime fox bait.

I definitely agree with others' answers. He is a wild animal, and not meant to be petted by humans. I wouldn't even try to attract him to your yard; let him be. :) and enjoy him with binoculars!

do not do that , it is a wild animal , rabies and other disceases would be terrible if he bit you . wild animals need to stay in the wild and away from humans , don't try to coax him near you it could be very dangerous
