He's eleven hopefully not unsupervised so I would say find some wood even fallen timber. It doesnt have to cost anything. And let him carve or build a fort in the backyard. Or even better let him design how he would like his dream room to look. And little by little take those designs and find solutions to incorporate it into his room.

You guys can rearrange his room and build shelves and a new creative headboard for his bed together. Maybe even a desk? Or he can try to be creative and innovative with trying to make his own little galaxy that'll light up his room at night. He can make stuff out of wood and with your help put little holes of different shapes and sizes for the suns & planets, then put a colored light bulb inside of it? Then again he can try to make wooden shoes. Hahahaha.

let him take a shop class or apprentice with someone. Check with your city website to see what kind of community classes they offer, most cities hold classes for a small fee, like foreign languages, photography, dancing, all kinds of sports, computer classes, and alot of others. otherwise send him to a camp, or join a track, swim, basketball, any kind of sports team. i did summer track growing up and it was something to look forward to everyday.
