A review of the 2004 arrest data by race indicated that 70.8 percent of arrestees were white, 26.8 percent were black, and 2.4 percent were of other races (American Indian or Alaskan Native and Asian or Pacific Islander). Of all arrestees for violent crimes, 60.9 percent were white, 36.9 percent were black, and the remainder were of other races. Of all arrestees for property crimes, 69.3 percent were white, 28.2 percent were black and the remaining 2.5 percent were of other races. Whites were most commonly arrested for driving under the influence (893,212 arrests) and drug abuse violations (821,047 arrests). Blacks were most frequently arrested for drug abuse violations (406,890 arrests) and simple assaults (288,286 arrests).

Blacks have always been convicted at a higher rate than whites, this is historical. Innocent blacks get harassed by this countries system of law routinely.
But please answer the question.

Blacks, who comprise only 13% of the population and account for about 13% of drug users, constitute 35% of all arrests for drug possession, 55% of all convictions on those charges, and 74% of all those sentenced to prison for possession. Blacks are incarcerated at a rate that is more than 6 times that of whites.
If only 13% of drug users and 35% of arrests why are they nearly 75% incarcerated?
The rate of imprisonment for Black women is more than 8 times that of white women, and 7x for blacks compared to whites for idenitcal crimes.
Which leads to 46% of blacks incarcerated, and not over 90% as others want you to think.

Let's look only at homicides. In 2004, blacks committed 52.1% of all homicides in the US, whites 45.9%, and others 2.0%. Now consider homicide RATES. Blacks had a homicide rate that is 7 times higher than whites in 2004. Americans are more worried about murder than anything else. Other crimes take second place. I agree that the media shows far too many black murders and not enough white crimes. However, when a minority group commits more than half of the murders in the US, it is understandable that people think blacks commit most crime. Also note: Murders are usually intraracial, meaning that blacks kill blacks and whites kill whites. So any fear of a member of another race is not only racist, it's statistically unfounded.

i think we need to look at a few things before we can make these assumptions. 1 black americans make up about 13% of the population of the U.S. . 2 latinos are now about 12 - 15% of the population . 3 asians make up maybe 6% of the population. now this would leave just 66% as white. with just 13% of the population and with the stats saying 50% of crimes committed by blacks, this seems rather disturbing.

The US is about 78% white, it only figures that whites would commit the most crimes. What you should be asking is why blacks at 12% of the population make up 60% of the US prison population.

I don't know why. What I know is that I've had several crimes committed against me - all by white men. I've never been hurt by a black person.
The truth of the matter is, when I'm walking down the street, I'm more likely to cross to the other side if there is a group of white men than if there is a group of black men on my path.

even if this was true it would be set as 75% of crime is made them but the avrage of crime by their race would be way lower because their are way more of them in the usa
put it like this if 75% was how much crime was comited by whites and 25% by blacks(minorities)(lol this is horribly wrong anyway) there white average would come to 15% out of all whites comit crime the 25% blacks make up would come to like 67% of all blacks comit crime you cant look at it as 75 precent of all crimes are comited by a certain race you have to create an avrage of how many % of a race does something

Well first of all genious, you have to look at the population of the US. If there are 100 million white people and 7 million blacks, then the figures would probably be right. I also think your stastics are wrong. How come white people score higher in IQ tests than black people? If you want to start asking racist questions, bring it on.

First, always remember statistics are easily misleading.
Second, Blacks crime offensives as a proportion of THEIR overall population is higher than Whites, thus aiding that perception.
Third, the perception of the ills of another ethnic group is always exaggerated by a different ethnic group especially if one chooses to be biased.

Who says it's white people?Census Data Shows High Minority Arrest Rate
July 20, 2001
Socio-economic factors that are linked to race could explain why blacks make up a disproportionate share of inmates in America's prisons and jails, the Associated Press reported July 17.
Newly released U.S. Census figures show that blacks are arrested at much higher rates than their percentage of the national population.
2000 Census reports show that blacks make up 12 percent of the United States' 281 million people, while whites make up nearly 75 percent of the total population. But in South Carolina, blacks make up 68 percent of male inmates, while in West Virginia, blacks comprise 44 percent of the female prison population.
Law-enforcement data shows that blacks were involved in 29 percent of arrests in 1999, while whites made up 69 percent of arrests. The prison data is based on FBI information compiled from 29 states and the District of Columbia.
Fritz Rauschenberg, research director of the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission, acknowledged that racial biases are a factor in the criminal-justice system. But he said socio-economic factors should not be overlooked in explaining racial disparities.
Historically, he explained, minorities generally have higher rates of poverty and live in cities. Crimes are generally committed more by poorer people and in urban areas. In these urban areas, also, law-enforcement pursues more aggressive crime-fighting efforts, especially against drugs.
For instance, since the 1980s, anti-drug efforts have focused on crack cocaine, a drug more prominent in inner cities, where more blacks reside.
Hilary Shelton, director of the Washington bureau of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, believes racial disparities will be reduced when problems with racial profiling are solved, and courts focus on rehabilitation and treatment rather than prison time for drug-related offenses.
"Our prison population has the tendency to be African-American, poor, and undereducated," Shelton said. "And it's worsened in the last 15 years."
He pointed out that many black drug suspects lack the money to afford quality legal representation, drug treatment, and other programs that white suburban offenders can afford.
Nope, the part I read that had any association with whites was that it said "2000 Census reports show that blacks make up 12 percent of the United States' 281 million people, while whites make up nearly 75 percent of the total population. But in South Carolina, blacks make up 68 percent of male inmates, while in West Virginia, blacks comprise 44 percent of the female prison population." So your in the wrong sh!t.

A better question is, why do black commit more crimes no matter their country of origin. You may say "America is racist, that's why it seems like blacks commit more crime" but its the same way in ALL countries with a black population.....
