There are those who say that 'their religion has been insulted and that they will strike back on its behalf.'

So, can this be? If so, then can we insult Christmas? or a Fathers Day, or a Wednesday, for example.

Personally, I see the outrage by those who claim 'insults' on behalf of their religion, are simply hanging their reason for a fight (like a coat) on a convient hook ...where they can morally justify this desire.

To me, a God, who Knows All, Understands All, S/He can take care of itself and surely doesn't need 'blood' to be spilt to satisfy itself... Or am I missing something about a Forgiving God (for the ignorance of the ignorant)?

Quickly, everyone move away from their computers and seek shelter behind a wall or solid piece of furniture.

I fear the Internet will explode at any moment!

I followed a humor link the other day, and right there on top of the web page, there it was, all two inches in height on the page -- the cartoon drawing of Mo with the bomb in his turban!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm typing behind the safety of a sheet of blast resistant lexan.

LOL. I reckon all us decadent infidels should have our heinies whacked for enjoying the freedom of humor.

What was the question?

Your third and last paragraph correctly answers the question. A religion should be defended by the 'RIGHTEOUS' and PEACEFUL deeds of the followers not by their 'swords' and amunitions.

The fact is that political leaders have found that hiding behind a religion to propagate political, diversionary and expansionist agenda yields quicker dividends in a world where people prefer to wear religious badge than living the true tenets of religion - God is merciful, forgiving and long suffering and not willing that any perish but that all should be saved!

I agree with most of the answers here. The Religion itself can be insulted, as it is the people who's beliefs make up the Religion, therefore, insult the religion, you insult the people and vice versa.
But this is where forgiveness and tolerance comes in (or should) and people should learn to laugh at themselves too.
Western culture is able to satire anything and everything we know, which makes our culture so different to others. Hence the conflicts of interest.

Anyway, my religion will beat up your religion anyday!

Peace :-)

Actually its the people behind the RELIGION who are always "hurt" when someone or somebody is doing the insult. Religion per se cannot be insulted because it is nothing! People need to know that RELIGION cannot save the soul of his member(s). Satan is so guile and wily that he uses RELIGION as an effective system in the spirituality of a human being to dictate the will of people, in fact many are ready to die for their RELIGION!

Search the scriptures (the BIBLE), and you will be surprised to discover that millions of millions of people were destroyed because of RELIGION! The God of the universe, the creator of heaven and earth point us not to a RELIGION but to a person...Behold the Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world! Its Jesus the Son of God...no matter what YOU think otherwise it is still JESUS CHRIST.

Yes a religion, or a belief, can be insulted. You can also insult a person for holding a belief. Christ told us this would happen. It is people's response to the insult which is important. If your faith is strong and you are secure in your belief then you will respond in a mature way by engaging in discussion and may even strengthen your belief. I don't know of any faith or religion which demands a violent response to a challenge of faith. Those who do such are either weak in faith or charlatans.

i don't appreciate any faith. I appreciate peoples actual to have confidence and prepare what they choose as long because it does not harm society, yet faith does do issues to control and harm society. the reason atheists in this talk board communicate approximately christianity better than different religions is with the help of the fact maximum persons on indexed right here are from north united states of america it fairly is predominantly christian. in case you reside in united states of america you're surrounded by ability of religion. I stay in utah and there are church homes each 2 blocks in some aspects. Atheists have had to tiptoe around faith as though its some untouchable factor yet while it damages society then we damn properly have a real to communicate out.

Its rediculous. Some cartoon shows a picture of Mohammed and theres riots, people have been making fun of the Catholics and Jews for years and no one so much as bats an eyelid.

To me, you can insult a religion, however, insulting a religion is not grounds to retaliate with violence and abuse.

the religion itself- no
the follower of the religion and his or her views- ye very much so. and not always on purpose, i am an athiest and for some reasons that can be an insult, not to the religion because it is a thing but to the follower because it is a person.

Good point. But semantics.

I don't think you can insult God. He heard it before in is hardly likely to be impressed. As a person you can not say you are insulted... you weren't. Leaves the religion to hide behind.

It is just a phrase.

it depends on what religion you are whether God will take a hand in His own defense. Yes, you can insult religion, just as you can insult people. (all religions are made up of the people you just insulted.) i'd play it safe and stick to your own religion. try not to insult anyone else's
